Dan Connor

Though I know Chucky is an offensive minded coach, but during James Laurinaitis' 40 run, he was talking up Dan Connor...saying he and James Laurinaitis remind him of each other and that "Dan Connor is going to be a real good player for John Fox up in Carolina" The rest of the crew seemed to agree...

But w/ Beason, where the hell is this kid going to play?

Could we possibly have:

Davis-Beason-Connor?

Or does it scream 3-4? :P Just kidding.

Kind of surprised he didn't say "North Carolina"

Considering the 40 Laurinaitis just ran, comparing him to Connor is an insult to Connor.

LOL, combine is overrated - Laurinaitis is gonna be a beast - but Connor did run a 4.67 at his pro day.

Speaking of "Connors" I still think it's funny that Connor Barwin at DE outran most of the top LB prospects!

Connor may not be an impact player this year or even next, but I think he's going to be a big asset to the Panthers. Whether he plays ST only, moves to OLB, or is just Beason's backup, he'll do well. Like I've said in another thread, we did really good with injuries this year, but you never know what will happen and having good backups is key to being good in the NFL.

The one big weakness for Conner is his coverage skills. I think that would limit him in starting at SLB. Of course Beason is not going to lose his spot. For Conner, playing WLB makes the most since but with how great Davis played this year at WLB I doubt you see him move back to SLB. IMO Conner, Beason and Davis are our best three talents at LBer and I think that by 2010 you will see all three starting. As for this year I think Diggs will remain the starter and should as he has proven to be worthy of it. It's just in the long run I think you have to get the your young talent on the field and for that to happen the elder Diggs will have to take a back seat.

I don't mean to be a grammar hammer, but since he is on the team, it's "connor"

The WILL needs to have stronger coverage skills than the SAM. The SAM may be called upon to cover the TE, but in most cases the WILL is the faster of the two and will drop off into coverage. The SAM needs to be bigger to shed blocks on the strong side and get to the RB/QB...

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
