Can someone shed some light on this idea that Newton is dumb?

Recommended Posts

1. Are you insinuating that his only action to date which has garnered these criticism is buying a stolen laptop? You don't seem to be very accurate with many things you claim so far in my deelings with you.

Unless you are using an unsubstantiated allegation about cheating at Florida against him. Or the pay for play scheme that the NCAA cleared him of against him.

Give me an example of him being disingenuous. Give me an example as to why he would be stupid. Give me an example as to why he should be considered a thug. Give me an example of his laziness.

Seriously, just tell me what he has done that was sooo bad he should be labeled those things??

2. All the other first round picks who had major question marks on their character, yet were still drafted, means nothing? Just because we picked him doesnt mean it wasnt a terrible pick. I remember Adam Jones having major questions about his character, yet the Titans overlooked them in large part because of the glowing endorsment his S&C coach gave them. They were wrong. This is one of MANY examples where teams feel like they have a guy figured out, and are dead wrong.

That would be a good point if you said Hurney just ignored these things like he says they basically did with the kid from WVU.

Instead he said the don't really exist. He said in the post draft presser "I wouldn't put Cam in the same category as Hogan we have no questions about Cam's character (paraphrased here but go back and watch it and that is basically what Hurney said)". Rivera said some of the things that have been said about Cam are flat out false.

Why do you except these allegations as true without question??

Bottom line...there is no evidence whatsoever that Cam is dumb or lazy, yet there is more pressure on him to prove that he's not dumb and lazy than any other QB who was drafted. Why?

And BTW, doing something dumb when you're a teenager and actually being dumb are two different things. Hell, we all did dumb things as teenagers.

My father is an Auburn alumnus and I have seen most of their games dating back to Bo Jackson and Reggie Slack days. I don't need an article and I am not sure one was ever written about it because who the heck would write an article about a guy who was calling plays??

Jason Campbell is the son of a high school football head coach.

He was raised immersed in football his ENTIRE life.

Jason Campbell also earned his degree early at Auburn.

If by "calling his own plays" it is meant that he received the signals from the sideline, called the play chosen by the OC in the huddle, went to the line, read the defense, and made checkdowns on his own then, yes, Jason Campbell absolutely did that at Auburn.

I don't disagree MAV. I just get irritated by people who just think it is blasphemy that anyone question whether racial bias plays a role in the perception of black QBs.

Nearly every black QB we have discussed I have personally heard from some people say "He is too dumb to play QB". Not on TV, radio, or print but in everyday life.

Some people seem to believe that if Narwocki didn't say it than those perceptions don't exist.

Well, we get irritated by people who thinks it is blasphemy for someone to question Cam without it being called racially motivated.

Hate to break it to you. But I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone on here who really cares what color skin our starting QB has. Hell, he could be any race, creed, religion, etc.. to me. It he wins, that is all I care about.

Here is to hoping that Cam lives up to his potential and hype. If he does, he will definitely be something very special.

1. It's not that hard as you think to find people on here who don't like black QB's.

2. Yea once he gets back from Mexico, right:rolleyes:

Typical response from you.

If you question Cam....you are a racist.

If you blast Clausen for last season, you are just pointing out poor play.

The same people who did not want Cam here this year, were the same people who did not want The Golden Calf of Bristol here last season. Yet, in you warped little world, anyone who questions Cam is a racist.

And, please explain how #2 above has ANYTHING to do with race.

Jesus dude.....you are one of the biggest racists on here.

That is The Answer That Shalt Not Be Spoken because many want to label it a "card" and deny that it exists.

Personally, I questions Mallett's intelligence more than ANY quarterback in this draft. That guy sounds like he barely has the gray matter to say his ABC's.

I am very concerned about Cam playing this year.

That statement alone cannot classify or declassify me or anyone else as a racist.

If you are in fact... Mel's brother Del... then we can assume that since we know your brother Mel Gibson hates Jews... that kinda increases your chances of being a racist by at least 20%.

I watched every one of Cam's games at Auburn last year. Trust me, he's going to be a very exciting player for Panther fans and everyone else in the NFL to watch. The guy really seems to love the game of football a lot. He gets just as excited as the hardcore NFL fans do on game day.

Cam loves to hear those cheers from the fans and get the accolades from the commentators on TV. He'll work his butt off to make sure he's playing at his highest levels.

He doesn't give up when things aren't looking good in a game either. He works with the coaches, gets the team fired up and goes out and plays even harder. Anyone who saw how Auburn went from down 24-0 at halftime against Alabama (at Tuscaloosa) and still won the game can testify to this. That was an all-time classic college football game if there ever was one.

Hopefully, the entire Panthers team will rally around him and everyone will play at their highest levels for the whole 2011 season. We shall see.

Because he was drafted #1 overall and many would argue he has the most ground to cover and also is the only one to really make a major comment pre-draft that would make someone question his drive to be great (imo his drive to be great is just fine and if he fails it won't be due to a lack of work, but I do think there is reason for some to want him to actually keep working and not just be satisfied). At the same time, there are questions about the other quarterbacks, too... But since Cam was taken the highest, he will have the most pressure. He also likely has the most potential, and when people feel that way, that tends to increase pressure as well. When your ceiling is high, that creates a lot of expectations.
