Can someone shed some light on this idea that Newton is dumb?

I don't think the Auburn offense was simplistic because Cam couldn't handle it if it were complex. I think it was the way it was because when you have an athlete that is so head-and-shoulders above the competition athletically, that you can call '36' and gain 17 yards on it, why complicate things?

It's like when you coach pop warner and there is a kid on your team who is just way bigger and faster than the other kids. Sure, you'll throw some other plays out there to get all the kids some playing time, but when you're down a score late, you just have the big kid run over everyone up the gut for a TD.

Cam has some interesting word choices come out of his mouth sometimes, but I don't really think that has anything to do with his football accumin. Just because he hasn't been asked to really do a lot of complex wordy plays doesn't mean he's not able to IMO. Him making plays and being in the center of the huddle getting guys pumped up, that's what I like to see from him.

It's just like he said, "simple=fast". It's funny the day before yesterday I was watching soundfx on NFLN and they were showing coaches and players call plays. The only one that tried to call a complicated play-call was Romo and fugged it up so bad he started laughing in the huddle. Everyone else had simple names for their plays including Manning and Favre.

I lived there a few years ago and my youngest son was born in Decatur. I got us the hell out of there before he could grow up and start calling people "shawty". No offence ATLiens:cam: Now I'm in Holly Springs and my oldest can't stop saying "dude" and "owned". Now I'm thinking about going back to the ATL, now shawty doesn't sound so bad.

At least it's not Hawaii where half the people sound like Michelangelo from the cartoon and the other half sound like Marcell Dareus with "brah"s and "da kine"s sprinkled in.

I'd be willing to wager 10% of it is based on his race alone .. yes i said it .. " They be hatin cause he be black mmhm "

I'd wager a good bit more of it is based on race than 10%.

There's also the fact too, that members of the media and alumni of Alabama have been on an Anti-Cam crusade since Auburn made #1 on the BCS list last season.

But who gives a flying fug now though? He's a Panther. He will either succeed or fail. It's our responsibility as fans to support him and encourage his success.

The race thing seriously is a little ridiculous, quit it. Are we going to have to hear this kind of poo the entire time he's our QB?

My reasoning for thinking that is from watching that ESPN thing where they followed him around for a couple days.

The boy can barely put sentences together. Some of the stuff he says just sounds completely retarded coming out of his mouth. I wish I could find some video to show you what I mean, but those of you who watched it should know what I'm talking about.

Before that, I didn't think he was that bad, but now that I saw that, I can hear it in almost every interview. I feel like any minute he's just gonna start making up words.

^^This.

I don't think he is dumb though. I just think his vocabulary fails him a lot. He's seems intelligent and then bam he'll throw in a erroneous word that makes you cringe.

You are complaining about living in Hawaii?:conf:

It's fuging football. Would you rather be smart and slow or not as smart and fast as poo?:cam:

Not sure if he's dumb or not, but I know that the boy can barely speak the English language at times.

I am not sure if it's the way he talks, if he's nervous in front of the camera, of if he is half retard. But he is no worse than Mallett.

If anyone uses the race card, its because the deck was fixed and its the hand that they've been dealt.

You ever notice how the race card is almost always used by someone whose black ... or NOT WHITE? Thats something to think about right?

And believe me, Im not saying that white men and women should have to continue to kiss the butt of racial equality because of what happen years ago. But I am saying that you cannot deny its everlasting effects on our culture and our society. Racism, discrimination, and every kind of prejudice have a way of morphing and mutating into different forms of subjugation. Though the terms have often changed... The attitudes so permeate our society that its difficult sometimes to separate the genuine desire to uphold a standard from the desire to undermine what you dont understand about someone else.

I say all that to say this...

Black people, as a whole, more than any other people group in America, know what it means to be discriminated against or prejudged based upon their race. If you hear alot of black people saying the same thing... whether it be true or partially true, it would do you well to, instead of writing off what they're saying as an excuse, find out WHY they feel that way. I promise you there is some experience behind their expression.

Now... contrary to popular belief, football as a sport itself isn't rocket science. And it doesnt really require any sort of PHD. But for a lonnng time the quarterback position has been seen as the position on the field that requires the most "smarts." And this isnt necessarily a wrong judgement because the quarterback is responsible for making all types of reads in a set offense... and he has to be able to recognize a defensive scheme and quickly react to it.

Historically... black quarterbacks possess an amount of speed and athletic ability that white quarterbacks dont... so their high school/ college coaches dont bother to use them for much more than that because coaches can win quickly with that formula at those levels. They can often see challenges in the NFL if they dont have the work ethic or they havent been given a chance to prove otherwise ... they're often moved to a different position... like WR. (Ronald Curry, Armanti Edwards.) They tried it with Warren Moon and with a personal friend of mine who was drafted by the Cowboys about 20 years ago. And when a black quarterback does well in the pocket as a traditional passer... he's seen as a "smart qb," or a "good decision maker."

Now as far as how Cam Newton speaks... let me let you in on a little "black secret." Most black people speak 2 different languages. The 1st language is a common form of speaking with people you're raised with or people of the same race... depending on where you're from its going to vary... but it contains alot vernacular which is not acceptable as "proper." Then there is the language that gets you a job... Its a more professional and acceptable way of speaking that makes people feel more comfortable with you. Cam Newton seems to struggle with the second, especially when the cameras are on him. It seems that he tries to overcompensate by using large words and trying to force things to sound a certain way... but it doesnt flow when he speaks. One of the reasons that Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant... aside from the fact of their athletic abilities, are very successful and acceptable is because they have mastered their second language.... which is nothing but "proper English." We do it to people who are latino all the time... We assume they are less intelligent because of their broken English. There were many leaders who had problems with their speaking... but that doesnt make them incapable of leading.... IE: George W. Bush.

Back to football... A majority of the quarterbacks coming out of college, (regardless of race) play in a spread type of offense. And those that have played in a Pro-Style offense are not guaranteed to be successful. IE: :jc:

Sorry if this was preachy... But as the bible says: "In all thy getting, get an understanding."

Heres an interesting link about Cam Newton's mentor Warren Moon... I think He's had the success and perspective that will benefit Cam Newton's career moving forward.

Every American Indian says hello.....

Umm... are you an American Indian? If not how can you speak for them?

However... there are MANY African Americans (myself included) who have Indian and white descent. So from my African side I say hello... and I say hello from my Cherokee side. And from my white side... I say shut up and goodbye.
