Clausen hires new agent....

mainly because his died in march.

Panthers quarterback Jimmy Clausen has hired David Dunn of Athlete’s First, Darren Heitner of Sports Agent Blog reports, Clausen was previously represented by the late Gary Wichard, who passed away in March.

Dunn is a Southern California guy who counts nearly two dozen quarterbacks–including Aaron Rodgers, Mark Sanchez, Matt Cassel, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Kyle Orton, Matt Hasselbeck, Colt McCoy and 2011 draftees Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett–among his over 50 clients, so he and Clausen are a natural fit. With Newton the clear franchise quarterback, Clausen will need an experienced agent like Dunn to get him to another team where he’d have an opportunity to start.

i imagine he'll be trying to get traded as soon as possible if he wants a starting gig or at least a chance at one. won't be getting that here.

I am thinking Seattle resigns Hasselbeck, and then trades for Jimmy.

I am thinking this would be the best case scenario for Jimmy to get his career back on track. Getting to learn under a really good, smart west coast QB, and be able to take a step back before his confidence gets completely shot.

Also, Carrol was trying to recruit Jimmy very very hard before he chose ND. So they know each other.

Don't forget this is a business. I think it is going to come down to how well Clausen does in the preseason and who is willing (if anyone) to give us something for him. Right now he isn't costing us much money and it would be crazy to unload him for nothing. We have historically kept 4 QBs on our roster and until we have a proven QB, you don't trade away potential unless another team give us a good offer.

Isn't it just : lol :? Are you doing it from a rotary phone or something?

In that case it would be

most likely, the best trade possibilities will come as QBs fall apart during the season. it's going to have to take some desperate team wanting to take a flier on him and be willing to part with a 3rd or 4th. if the panthers have the roster space (and they won't be using 4 to do it unless you're talking practice squad), at only $450k he's a cheap backup who should have a grasp on the system. not exactly what i would call good insurance, but he's there. they can afford to wait for a decent offer...esp. if they get a decent vet QB brought in.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
