Cj Wilson at Nickel, you CAN'T be serious!

Im sorry "The Answer" but Lucas is a better corner than Gamble, and has been his whole career. The only year Gamble has been better than Lucas was his contract year, go figure. Gamble has up to this season gotten burnt plenty on deep balls, missed some of the most fundamental tackles, and is simply not the run stopper Lucas is. And thats based of observation not stats, because stats are for losers ( according to Fox) If one good year makes you better than someone who has outplayed you your whole career, than Derek Anderson is better than 95% of the QB's in the league..

Do you smoke weed during the games??? Gamble has rarely been beaten on long balls, and hardly ever gets thrown at because of his consistency. Lucas was victimized almost every game last year. Maybe that was in part due to Godfrey's play. None the less, Lucas is nowhere close to Gamble as far as coverage skills go. Both are good tacklers. But Lucas falls short everywhere else.

Hate to say it, but r-p is right. Godfrey really blew a lot of plays in coverage last season. I do not like Lucas very much, built you could tell he was frustrated by Godfrey's lack of help, as he was seen frequently yelling at Godfrey after giving up big plays. Godfrey is a good tackler and good against the run, but his pass defense skills were very suspect last season. The good thing is that he is young and can hopefully improve.

Godfrey's mistakes last season were basically a given for a rookie safety. The difference maker will be whether or not he improves, or stays about the same. I think he'll improve. Yes, he blew a couple plays, but Lucas was just flat out smoked a lot too.

I agree completely. Godfrey will hopefully improve. Lucas is to blame for a lot of mistakes. The man just looked horrible the past 2 seasons. He looks like Jason David out there.

SMithers apparently your a bandwagon fan who just started watching the Panthers this year, because this is the only year Gamble has been better than lucas...Welcome aboard!

Um, no.

Only year? The past two years Gamble has been far better than Lucas, last year he was almost as good as this most recent year, he just broke his hand.

The team is high on Wilson, he will be playing before too long. He has praise from Lucas, and even Steve Smith. You say this poster is a bandwagon fan, but don't you think that a real fan would know about Wilson?

Pretty basic stuff bud, I mean for a real Panther fan.

As for just throwing him in there, playing nickel is hardly "throwing him in there" and how else does someone get playing time? Split time with someone? I am interested in how people think that Beason wasn't thrown in there, how Peppers wasn't, Godrey, Gamble. He has been on the team for a while and knows the defense, he isn't a rookie.

The organization was high on plenty of players that didnt amount to poo, including Seward, Ricky Manning, Evan Mathis, i mean seriously. Jenkins was praising either Casey Hampton or Moorhead or some DT thats not even on the team anymore..He was sayign they were the next best DT in the NFL..Just cause Gantt says they are high on a guy doesnt mean they are good. You knew Marshall was a good player when you saw him play even in his rookie year, i dont see that in CJ Wilson, i just dont. He's done nothing too show me he is going to be anything but a bench player, journey man in this league...

And yes Lucas has been better than Gamble, Chris Gamble sucked up unmtil this year as a matter of fact, and I dont see any reason to why he wont go back to being the Chris Gamble we all know now that he got his contract..I support the guy, he's a starting CB for my team, but he's not been better than Lucas up until this past season, no way!

Yep, I'm a bandwagon fan who has been to more games over the last 13 years than you I am sure. How is it that you seem to be the only one who thinks Lucas is the better corner. Read other threads, then come down to reality. Show me a thread that begs for the Panthers to cut Gamble. Lucas had one good year...his first with the Panthers. After that, he has been declining steadily. Maybe if you actually watched the Panthers consistently, you would know that.

This might be hard to grasp, or understand but the team apparently LOVES this kid and think he can one day be a STARTER... He's young, inexperienced and is learning a new system, but the team has big love for him. That's enough for me.

Fox is big on CJ wilson and thinks he will be a starter some day. So yea, I've already said it, if Lucas is cut. Wilson is the Nickel.

And how many games have you been too the past 13 years? Ive been too a lot of games on the road considering i live in NJ. Im sure it's easier for you if you live in Carolina to see the Panthers, but im a road warrior and i havent missed a Panther game since 96'. And yes, im telling you in as you can read in my post above, that the Pantehrs have been high on many players who suck, and there are many many cut Gamble threads...Take a look for yourself :)

Bottom line...this team would be worse off without gamble, and far worse off by keeping Lucas. I sit in BOA stadium almost every home game and watch Lucas get burned, and listen to every fan scream his name in agony and disgust. If Gamble gets burned (rarely), the fans simply say "get him next time Chris!" I didn't see many threads hating on Gamble's contract extension. Sign Lucas to an extension, and watch this place light up!

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
