How soon after the lockout is resolved...

Lumps

Will FA, trades and contracts etc. happen? Seems like the exact minute the new CBA is structured would be a clusterfug of poo going on. I'd think they would have their homework cut out for them to see what these players have been doing with their time and making sure they have used it wisely.

Well I figured that was a given since it was the reason we were all shortchanged last year.

I just want to know if I'll be reading something like "5 minutes after the new cba was reached the Panthers signed ____, ____ and ___."

Question is, will the panthers actually make moves to acquire talent from Free Agency? If so, what position will they choose to fill first.

The other lingering question.. What will they do with smith?

i really don't think it is a question of "will they". if they want to be able to reach the cap minimum, they'll have to. and they've been talking a lot about it.

i don't think they have an order of positions they'd like to get first. they have a list of positions they want to address (which rivera has mentioned) and they've got guys they have been looking at. whether its DT or WR or LB or OL...i don't think it matters to them. they'll be dealing with all of it at the same time.

what they do with smith will largely have to do with how they feel about FAs available and who they acquire, imo.

My guess is that Smith will be traded for a draft pick........just a guess

I'd hope that a big time free agent out of (cough) Oakland is on in our "go get em" list! We need a CB gentlemen... Especially in our Division!!

Wonder where. Wonder if it will be to a team that wants him and will willing to give up a 2nd to 3rd rounder? That way the panthers can try and get Devier Posey in the supplemental draft. Give up a 4th or 5th for him.

Honestly ill be surprised if someone coughs up a 3rd for smith.

That is the problem for me as well. A third in next year's draft for a our leading receiver and clearly half the passing game. There is no way that is a fair deal for him. I would rather make him play it out here and see what he can do with Newton. If Cam can extend plays with his feet and buy Smith time to uncover, he could be Smitty's best friend next year.

I agree. I rather smith stick it out one more year here. Who knows, he might like it with the new offense and QB? I love the guy to death, but if he all of a sudden want out of carolina. You can't change the guys mind. He's classy and so is JR, so I know that they won't have an ugly divorce.

Peppers wasn't worth a high third or a second rounder but I'm sure we would have rather had that than the last pick in round three. Might as well sell while the price is as good as it is...next year we may not be able to move him for less that a fifth rounder if he has another bad season.

5 Minutes is a little too soon... Nobody wants to get investigated for tampering, of which I'm sure every team is doing in some way, shape, or form.

    • Purdy only passed for 127 yards week 18 and then only passed for 108 yards in the playoffs. In those two games he had 0 TD's and 2 INT's and a fumble. Mayes in the Superbowl had a total of 63 yards with 0 TDS at the 13 minute mark in the fourth quarter. He only had success when the Seahawks went into prevent defense. Philip Rivers only had 127 total yards in week 15. Boomer with the Vikings had 126 yards and 4 INTS in week 13. Cousins had 167 yrds week 14 and while it was over 150 yards, he also had 2 INTs with 0 TDs. Yeah Young didn't have a good game but neither did any of these other QBs. And while he had the lowest yardage, he was the only other QB that at least had a TD - Philips had the other.
    • He has to have a great year not a great few games...probably gonna have to finish with a winning record too for the first time as well. Front office has all the leverage, havent got much on the return for trading up in the draft no matter what bryce fans want to say. They have no reason to offer an extension right now. All the talk about his personality is just deflection off the talk about money. You can be the nicest guy in the world, it doesnt win games or make you a top 10 QB. They know that, spending all that money on the O line and drafting multiple offensive players in the first round of past drafts says a QB should have better production than what we have seen so far. We have to lean on a run game more to be productive in games rather than a qb we traded up to no.1 for. You can easily draft a more talented QB on a cheaper contract and get the same results bryce has given you so far. Thats the truth.
    • I will go out on a limb and say this was the biggest win since 06.
