Peppers/Cassel Trade Talks being whispered.

disagree w/ that one. BB even said he gave up and scrambled too much when option 1 wasn't open. He struggled reading defenses and making decisions when asked to do something other than look to throw 5 yards or shorter downfield. His accuracy was also off on all this throws except for 10 yards or shorter.

BB also slapped a Franchise tag on him.

I don't know of too many 1st QBs who don't do those things either. Even Ryan down the stretch.

It would not be a bad thing to have a QB who could run AND throw.

Delhomme's a sitting duck back there.

I don't know if this is right or not, but from what I saw of Cassel he was great.

He didn't look like a one-year wonder at all, he was smart in the pocket, precise, accurate and made good decisions. He even got better as the year went on. He is very mobile also, which I believe is important in our system on third downs. We would definitely convert a lot more on passing situations than we would with Jake.

I don't know we would want to pick up Cassel in a straight up trade for Peppers, plus 75 million for 5 years seems steep at this point. That is more than we are paying for Jake by a lot. Still if he wanted to play for a contender rather than a pretender like Detroit, he might figure that Carolina is a much better place. Plus we like to pick up other team's backups rather than pay for a rookie who might or might not deliver. So it fits Fox's MO. I just don't think we want him that bad or feel that he is worth 15 million plus foregoing the draft picks we will get for Peppers.

Plus the big issue is whether we want to get rid of Peppers at all. Hurney says no but I suspect it is maybe. Still I think Cassel is too high priced for us. I wouldn't be surprised if we make a run at a few other guys first and if Detroit really wants Cassel and will overpay for him we are likely to let him go.

How does this not make sense? New England runs a 3-4 a lot, which is what Peppers wants. And how do you figure that Cassell can't play in Fox's offense? First, its not Fox's offense, its Davidson's. Fox knows nothing about offense, and Davidson pretty much runs that show. Davidson came from Cleveland, where Romeo Crennal, who came from New England, was the coach. This year with Cassell NE ran mostly short completions to wideouts and tightends...sound familiar??? He rarely took deep shots, unlike Brady, and focused and just moving the ball slowly down the field. Again...sound familiar??? The NE offense under Cassell was ran much differently then under Brady. What Cassell did is very similar to what the Panthers do.

The trade makes no sense. Peppers would fit well in NE. Cassell didn't run similar offense to Carolina. We don't throw to RB's TE's anywhere close to what Cassell did. Breakdown his numbers, no QB in the league was in even close to him on dink and dump attempts. Our passing game is off of play action going downfield (not dink and dunk). Yes, NE ran a very different offense w/ Cassell b/c he doesn't have the ability read defenses and make good throws downfield. It was clear when he was asked to do that in NE - therefore BB crafted a pass game that was largerly an extension of a run game this past year. Fox isn't going to change and run that type of offensive scheme. He wants to pound the rock and then take advantage of Smith downfield. Cassell struggled going downfield to Moss - he will struggle doing it w/ Smitty also.

Yeah they are but they are not about overspending on a QB. Seems like they are interested in a Qb that wont break teh bank but will manage the game.

he would only count 1 million more to the cap with a 5 year 75 million dollar deal then Delhomme does this season.

Delhomme - 11 million

Cassel - 12 million

    • Carolina Way is gone, it went out the window with the Belichick hiring. They'll hire the best coach they can, ignoring everything else if possible.    Athletic reports that the school's top two targets are Tommy Lloyd and Billy Donovan. They don't care the buyout for a coach either, they and the boosters are willing to spend and will be going outside of the coaching family tree 100%.
    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
