WFNZ The Drive Interview with Sal Paolantonio

Thanks, so hard to listen to those idiots on "the wreck". Always love my gossips from Sal Paol though.

I found his comments about Ron Rivera quite pretty interesting. Says he's known Rivera since his playing days in Chicago and as in Philly. Says he will keep it real all of time and will not skirt the issues, get around the facts, or sell the audience on something that is not true. He says the players, fans, and media will appreciate that. Makes me wonder if this was a knock against Fox. Anyway, it was very good to hear and he believe the combination of Rivera's leadership and Newton's athletic ability will translate to many good seasons for the Panthers.

He also had interesting things to say about our new offensive system/philosophy and Plaxico Burress, but I won't spoil it.

It's refreshing to hear a member of the national sports media that doesn't think our organization is total garbage from top to bottom... I had to keep reminding myself he works for ESPN, LOL

I think he's right about the lockout and I think he's right about Rivera and Cam being a great combination. Rivera already made a point of saying Cam is not expected to be the savior of this franchise, he's just expected to do his part - this jives with Sal's mentioning of the "Rothlisberger formula" (no, he's not going to rape anyone).

Good interview. I don't quite agree with his stuff about the schemes, particularly offensively. I think the team will play ball control year 1, but beyond that, as Cam matures, Chud's offence will be about making big plays, threatening deep and opening holes. What he said about Plax made heaps of sense and I agree with it.

as good a place as any to put this. not that it is earth-shattering news, but here is adam schefter with (WARNING) good vibes to report from spending the day in charlotte and talking to some panthers players:

Back from day in Charlotte, where Panthers players raved about Cam Newton's attitude and talent in workouts. Sounds on fast track to start.

RT @No_1RedSoxFan: It's not like they'll bad mouth Cam to you. ... Had to hear what they said and the way they said it. They very impressed.

RT @SPORTCHATTRAV: Do you think their comments about Newton were genuine? ... Not a doubt in my mind.

    • Man, we're desperate around here.  I had to look at Peppers' stats to see if I'm missing something, but no, he's an average guy at best.  Nothing impressive at all in his stats.  He's not a true safety at all, and I'm kind of annoyed with the jack of all trades players at this point.  Of course I see the PFF scores and everything, but I'm old school.  I believe the stats tell more about the player than the analytics.  This ain't moneyball here. (haha)  The best players put up numbers.  And when I look at the numbers, Peppers is just another player running around on the field.
    • People see what they want.  I have also stated since the moment we drafted Bryce….a badly owned team was screwing HIM over by setting him up to fail by coach/scheme design.   Core criticism isn’t actually Bryce…it’s Carolina/front office.  I could see Bryce being good.  I could see Canales being good.  But I don’t see them as a pairing.  Football is about fit.  Board is doing what the board does.  People were idiots who dared question the All Star staff.  People raged when Fitterer was criticized.  They raged when Rhule was criticized.   Until they didn’t.
    • Yeah and to make it weirder Moehrig is a FS, Peppers is a SS.
