How long will the Observer last?

If they get smart about the web, they'll be able to keep the print form around until it's no longer fashionable to do so. But I'm not looking for that to happen either.

I gave up on the Disturber last Summer. Besides the sketchy sports section, the rest of the paper is so liberal that it makes me angry. Life's too short for that...

The print version will go down like most other print newspapers across the country. It's too bad. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I love reading a newspaper. I also don't understand why anyone would want the business to fold because they disagree with the newspaper's politics. I mean, are you so cynical and hard-hearted that you don't care that lot of people will be losing their livelihoods (including employees who have nothing to do with writing the allegedly liberal content)?

The San Fran Chronicle may be the first major paper to fold and our customer is the NY Times and they are losing an ass load of money every year.

I didn't say I want to put the paper out of business nor that I want people to lose their jobs, only that I did not choose to subscribe to it anymore. We all have our own opinions about politics and, while the Observer may reflect yours, it does not reflect mine.

I love having a printed paper to read on the john, but the reality is people expect their news right now, not tomorrow morning. And if they want a printed form they can print off the net.

This is so interesting to me. Will they all go out of business? Then people will get sick of reading sh*tty blogs so they'll demand a newspaper? Hmmm.. my guess is no, people won't get sick of reading stupid sh*t on the internet.

I like to chill on Saturday and Sunday mornings and read the paper with music and coffee. I dont really read it for news, more for commentary and in-depth reporting (such as it is at the Observer). Other than that I don't have time during the week and can get news anytime anywhere.

All papers are fading fast between the economy and the Internet they're barely survivig, which is why I left the Salisbury Post.

They will survive in some form but you'll see major changes in the next 8-12 months. Paid subscriptions to access the website will be the first.
