Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer is adamant that Jimmy Clausen has no chance to open the season as the Panthers' starting quarterback.

Gantt was also adamant long before anyone that the Panthers would draft Cam Newton with the No. 1 pick in the draft, so he's about as plugged-in as it gets in Carolina. Clausen is expected to be no higher than No. 2 on the depth chart this season, needing at least one injury to experience playing time.

In the 17 career games Jonathan Stewart has received 15 or more carries, he's scored 16 touchdowns and averages 5.62 yards per rush.

He also averages 112.2 total yards per game, and Carolina is 14-3. The record may be skewed by game situations (teams run more when they're ahead), but there's no disputing Stewart's per-play production or scoring ability. If the Panthers let DeAngelo Williams walk in free agency -- and we expect they will -- "J-Stew" will present top-10 running back upside in 2011 fantasy leagues.

The Charlotte Observer confirms that re-signing LE Charles Johnson will be the Panthers' top priority when free agency begins.

DeAngelo Williams is behind Johnson in the pecking order. Other key free agents include SLB James Anderson and WLB Thomas Davis, in addition to franchise-tagged C Ryan Kalil. The Panthers are expected to have more cap space than any team in the league. But they also have more free agents than anyone else.

I think we sign DWill. He is 28, but I think he still has another 2 awesome years left, with another 2 solid years. He is too good to pass up. JStew is what, 23? If we keep him on board he can eventually become the number 1, with ample time to get a RB to back him up.

I guess it all depends on what other teams will pay for DWill. I can't imagine it will be a huge pay day for him, since he is 28 and has had injury issues. I think we match what another team offers and keep him.

Same question I have... Doesn't make sense the way that's worded. I hope we re-sign both DLo and CJ back, as well as Anderson. And we have nor reason not to re-sign all 3 unless JR/Hurney have a target in free-agency they plan on spending money on that would otherwise go to one of these 3.

it's not a matter of wether or not carolina has the money.

well we have the money, they've said they want to keep them, and they haven't expressed much desire to test the market. I don't see why we need to face the truth that we're going to lose one of them. They won't affect each other.

      Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!

      Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.

      OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
