I would love to get Brandon Mebane, Braylon Edwards and Jonathan Joseph...

Every time I see a name like Braylon Edwards, my first thought is "the Panthers wouldn't sign a jerk like that". Then I have to remind myself that was under Fox.

It'll take some getting used to.

I'm personally in the minority from what I've read in this thread... I do NOT want to EVER see Braylon Edwards in a Panthers Jersey.... He was a one year wonder... Hasn't done shyit since then and probably won't. I dont want us over spending on a Wide Out who thinks he's the next best thing.

Last I checked, we have bigger holes at more dire need of help. We have a plethora of options at WR... This can wait a year.... If this team is gonna go out and get a WR, then the holes need to be filled first...

IF... And only if those holes have been filled, then and only then am I for going after a WR... And I'd hope that we went after somebody better than Braylon "I drop more balls than T.O." Edwards...

Of course that's just my opinion

The Edwards speculation is based on Chudzinski being the OC and the idea that he would know how to fix him and make him a better pro receiver.

Valid? Don't know. Reasonable logic, at least.

True... But do u want to get into a bidding war with him and he leads the league in drops again? I'd rather have Plax personally. Plax over Edwards.

Cheddar Bob can at least catch...

Edit: I think we've done enough for our offense this offseason...

(with the exception of signing our FA's)

We have a rookie QB that will make mistakes... I'd much rather them go out and sure us up at CB,DT, and safety...

Our defense is gonna need all the help they can get... The coaching will be there, we need help with getting some personnel though.

For what it's worth

I think Plax has one year left in him where he will adequately be able to contribute to a team. And if he came to the Panthers it would be a lose/lose for both parties. Plax should go to a team like the Eagles, Ravens, Cowboys where he will be the 3rd or 4th option and may be able to sneak into the endzone a couple times inside the 20.

Lots of issues with that list once you get out of the top 5. For example Mebane who had a great 2008 but has done little since, is rated much higher than Cofield who had a great 2010. Seems to me you rate a guy coming off a career year higher than a guy whose best year was 3 seasons ago and has only played all 16 games once in his career.

Or why Jonathan LJoseph is rated so low when he had a great 2009 and fought through injury to still have a good 2010. He is rated the second best FA corner by many yet is ranked only 36 while Josh Wilson isn't as good and was ranked 17.

There are a number of other instances where this list just doesn't cut it.

Braylon Edwards is hardly a number 1 receiver. He has only had 1 1000 yard season in his career and while his yards per catch is pretty impressive, he only averages 3 or fewer catches per game the last 4 years. He had one great year in 2008 and a decent one last year. But certainly he has not shown the ability to take over a game or carry a team in years.

Bigger needs?! Other than DT, I believe WR is our next need. Followed by CB and QB.

Also Plethora? Ever hear the phrase "quality over quantity"? Holmes, Rice, Floyd, Edwards. Rice will be a bidding war, Holmes, bidding war. Floyd and Edwards. Not so much.

On Edwards...

He averaged 17.1 yards per catch last season, which shows his big-play ability. He also had seven touchdown catches. He has improved on cutting down his drops.

Some would still have you believe Edwards drops more balls than any other receiver, when he’s really improved this part of this game. Still a bit inconsistent, he is a threat you have to account for on every play.

Just outside the top ten is a name that will surprise a few, Braylon Edwards. The New York Jet developed a reputation for drops after a 2008 that saw his star fall in Cleveland. He didn’t help himself with the odd terrible (but highly publicized) drop in 2009 and even now the label of a guy with bad hands sticks (every drop of his receives more press time than other top guys). Remarkable then that he only dropped four balls all year, a better rate than either of the other Jets to make this list.

He had the bad drops in 2008. He's recovered considerably from that in the last couple of years. Also he worked with coach Chudzinski. It's only natural that we'd go after him or Floyd.

Hasn't done shyt? Coming off a 7 TD season isn't "hasn't done shyt" material.... That's more than Gettis, LaFell and Smitty had COMBINED this past season... Come on dude... You're hating for no reason.

Ok so he had off field Issues, but hey Cam did. Hogan did. Smitty had his issues. That's a non-factor anymore, not for this regime. So if the panthers actually go after him and acquire his services, don't cry. ;)

Bidding war? Dude, he's not Sidney Rice or Santonio Holmes. The Jets will not get into a bidding war over Edwards when they have to lock in other players and can probably do without Edwards when they have Holmes. It's been said they will go with Holmes and let Edwards Walk. Sidney Rice is probably the coveted WR out there and he's the one season wonder as well. So if we're lucky we will get Braylon on the cheap.

Plaxico? Really, lets get a guy that's close to 40 and is on the decline..Nah.
