Chris Carr, Braylon Edwards & lesser looked at FAs

Let's look at some more FAs as this lockout nears its end...

When the talk about CBs in the FA this year comes up, its typically about either Aso or Joseph...but I'm tellin ya I think this Chris Carr could be an excellent player who proved it last season in Baltimore...and with the Ravens always having a strong secondary, they may decide to let another team go get him who wants to pay him. He's gonna need a new contract and with bidding wars over Aso and Joseph, I think he could be a great pick up at a lesser cost and totally worth it.

At Wide-out: with bidding Wars likely to happen over Rice, Holmes, and V-Jackson, I see Braylon Edwards as being the guy we at least try to get. Its been discussed before and I think he's the perfect type of receiver to compliment Smitty while these 2nd years in LaFell & Gettis can further develop and rotate in and out with the eventual/rare Pilares/Edwards sightings (not considering injuries). I don't think it has been mentioned much but Edwards has been dropping less and has really improved his game from a consistency standpoint.

On the defensive line, Stephen Bowen comes to mind DT/DE from Dallas.

Who are some FAs you're eyeing not necessarily at the top of rankings & conversation?

I still think we gonna trade S. Smith to SD for V-Jax and try to sign Coefield and Ike Taylor. I also think we are after another big name TE.

I asked about Steve Smith for Vincent Jackson and was told there is absolutley no shot of that happening. Also was told that Ike Taylor back to Pitt will be one of the first deals done after the lockout.

Still think Cofield ends up here and would love that.

Its going to be an exciting frenzy when FA starts. Not only do you have the guys we know about but what about the ones we dont. Many teams will be shedding players to get under the cap.The Jets, Cowboys, and Packers may need to shed some players and will be of particular interest to see who they cut.Guys like TNewman ,Roy Williams,Columbo and others

On the other side of the coin the Bucs only have 59.7 million tied up in cap.You mark my words the Bucs will get anyone they want..it is scary how much they have to spend for a 10-6 team. The Panthers have only 73 million but we have many holes to fill and CJ and Kalil are going to get massive paydays. The are saying Cams contract will be around 34 million over the duration.

:iagree:

He also knows Coach Chudzinski's work and how he handles himself. To be honest he has a #1 potential, in my opinion.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
