the 2010 draft provides no insight.....as it wasn't drafted for any coach and his direction.

How have we drafted for a running game? If the draft provides no insight, then don't sit here and say that we've been drafting for a running game.

plus, any idiot should know they ought to draft 328323 receivers after the drought the last 10 years.. call it foresight by Hurney..

WTF are you even talking about? CRA said we've drafted for a running game, and there's absolutely no proof over the last 3 drafts that we've been trying to build a running game through the draft. In fact, the opposite is true.

I think that is very true to a point. While I'm not sure exactly how much JR controlled the draft I don't think he just told them to totally deviate from the plan to the point of it being unproductive.

If you are building a running team you draft for the run game and for you D. Here is what Carolina's top draft picks were for Fox (rounds 1-2)

DT

S

RB

OT

LB

WR

RB

CB

LB

RB

CB

WR

OT

C

DE

RB

0 QBs, 4 RBs, 2 WRs (one clearly drafted to be a big body replacing Moose). The rest OL and D. That is building a running team.

2010's draft isn't relevant, but going all the way back to 2002 is completely relevant..

Obviously John Fox wanted to run the football. Even I'm not dumb enough to dispute that. But in the drafts as of late, it's clear that we're not just drafting to be a running team.

yeah, b/c that is what was built under the Fox era.....that was the Panthers. Rivera's building blocks start with that.

The 2010 class was not draft for Fox or Rivera.

John Fox drafted 2 1st round RBs in the 2nd half of his run.....who does that? In addition to that he went for a one dimensional run blocking machine in Otah.....Yet you think he was even more focused on the pass?

In 2006? No.

Do I think the 2011 Panthers are a run-first team? Well, IDK enough about the offense thus far to know if we'll be run-first but I do believe a strong running game is NEVER a bad place to start, especially when trying to develop a young QB.

where Rivera takes this team isn't what I was talking about.....but Carolina built a running ball club in a passing era under Fox.

We're gonna disagree about the 2010 draft, but there's no doubt Fox wanted to build a run-first team.

Since I don't look at the 2010 draft the same way as you, I'm more inclined to say that in recent years they've been making an effort to balance out the offense with the drafting of a couple QBs and a handful of WRs

Im saying that any idiot (Hurney) should have the foresight to draft some receivers considering it's pretty much gone ignored the last 10 years..

CRA is saying Rivera hasnt himself geared this team towards passing over the last 3 drafts...

Are you forgetting Stewart?

That's what you guys don't understand, we have another top flight back sitting behind DWill.

What I am saying is we put too much emphasis on the RB position, and it has been biting us in the ass.

It's time to get into the 2000's.

Stewart clearly isn't "sitting" behind Deangelo. They would as always split carries to some degree, with Stewart gradually taking more and more over the next 3 years, Deangelo becoming the change of pace guy later in his career, hopefully when Cam takes the next step to turn the team into the passing team that everyone hopes we become. Keeping Deangelo allows us to bring Cam along like the Steelers did with Roethlisberger and like the Jets are doing with Sanchez. It also is insurance in the event that the law of averages catches up with Stewart and he does miss more time. A few people have thrown out the stat that he has never missed a regular season game, but apparently forgot about the two that he missed with a concussion in 2010. Concussions as we know are something that easily can occur multiple times with a high impact position like running back.
