This was an obvious power play by owners, who want to pressure players into accepting their latest proposal and see how they respond to public pressure. On Thursday night, the NFL Players Association executive board and 32 player reps opted not to vote on the proposal. Players finally received a copy late Thursday of what the owners had passed, but their initial response wasn't favorable. They think they are being played.

Said one player who was on a conference call with the NFLPA and reps: "What they said they voted on were things we didn't even agree to. Players were ticked off at owners and have just dug a deeper trench."

The door was opened for players to report to team facilities Saturday and for agents and teams to discuss contracts for players. But that opening was contingent on the NFLPA executive committee approving the latest proposal.

Part of this power play by owners is to protect their legal position but also force a deadline for the players to come back as a union, which is vital if there is going to be a 10-year agreement. First, the players' executive board must agree upon the settlement for NFL business to start. Second, the owners have set a Tuesday deadline for 50 percent of the 1,900 players plus one player to vote to have the NFLPA as their union.

Don't like reading "power play" and "being played."

The owners have put the players in a hole. And these public perception battles just make everyone look bad.

nice modding.

BTW, the players claimed that the owners had put extra stuff in the deal while the NFLPA still claimed they still didn't have the proposal. Sounds fishy to me. Who is lying?

Have the players considered the fact that maybe their leadership is lying to them?

I don't give a fug what's in the deal. Youre paid millions to play a game and treated like royalty. On top of that your boss is willing to split almost half of their profits with you and your co-workers. What I'm the fug is the problem? " I don't like it when they put a franchise tag on me and overpay me for a season" the players are bitches. I don't blame the owners anymore its their fuging business. Does McDonald's or Wal-Mart split half of thier profits hell no. They players have been playing and having fun doing it their entire lives for free and now they get overpaid and start acting like pussies.

You can't see the difference between working for McDonald's and working as an NFL player?

There's a big add difference. You think kids grow up dreaming to work at McDonald's? The players are extremely privileged. I don't give a poo about the injuries. Most of these guys already received a free college degree. You really think they have something to complain about. Now you have the game to where its almost two hand touch and now they wanna complain about that. They just need to end this bickering.

Id like to sit on my ass and take my sweet time looking over the deal while sitting in my pool sipping a cool drink and millions in the bank. I bet the practice squad guys in "danger" of having go out with their degree and look for a job like the rest of us are ready to vote on the deal.

    • Nope Still missing it. Let's try this a different way... You have two quarterbacks from schools that ran the same kind of offense - maybe even two from the same school - on a given team (not necessarily the Panthers). One is designated the starter while the other is named the backup. Why?
    • yeah, pretty sure boss.....when things match and fit in the NFL.....the results then show it.  and when they don't, well, the results show that as well.  Bryce doesn't fit.   *but I get why late season and wants to argue with everyone Mr. Scot has also turned into a please don't talk to me about stats guy as well.  Given, the stats that reflect offensive productivity work against all your present arguments.
    • Yeeeah...stats and rankings have zero to do with a discussion of scheme and skill set match. Maybe look up definitions of style vs ability and see if that helps. At this point, you've basically had three different people explain to you where you're wrong, but rather than addressing any of those statements, you're just resorting to straight deflection.  You don't get it. Either that or you're acting like you don't get it so that you can avoid the discussion because it's not going well for you. (that wouldn't surprise me either) 😄 Sme result either way, I suppose.
