What is our best short term option at qb?

This is not a Cam Newton thread.I cant imagine Cam will be ready when the season opens given the lack of time tp prepare. What FAs are going to be availible that will sign knowing they will eventually be taking a back seat. Bulger comes to my mind. I think MMoore will move on.

To me they must do more than offering up Clausen or Newton as a human pinata.I cannot imagine JR wanting a repeat of last year.

Matt Moore but he is also young enough to be long term solution but that does not fit the plan with Cam. Plus Matt owes us nothing and it doesn't really help him all that much to resign with us.

So I would say an improved Jimmy Clausen because then he'd either be all world and we extend him or maybe he's just pretty good and we can trade him.

fixed.

At this point it has to be Newton starting from day one. I don't see any other option.

I disagree. We need a veteran qb on the team for a number of reasons. What if Cam bombs do you put in Clausen? Who is going to mentor these guys? We need a guy to compete until Cam or Clausen are ready.

I think that the silver lining to all of this might possibly be a significant drop in expectations by the media and fan base as far as Cam Newton is concerned...

This (gasp) might be exactly what the Dr. Ordered for us... He already doesn't have to live up to that ridiculous 1st overall pick contract... This might just be working out for us.

Now whatever He does he'll be praised for... Lack of camp time, lack or reps... As opposed to taking the full blame if he falters...

Just TRYING to be positive during all if this...

Well let me put it this way...we will need to sign another qb...who should it be? MMoore is a possibility or do we go for a more senior qb like a Bulger or Grakawski? We are obviously not going for a high salary guy.

JR cannot have a repeat of last year so other than a new coaching staff which will help and the return of Otah who may or may not contribute and signing an TE that may not make through camp how are we going to compete?

Cam may well be our starter day 1, but I say we're getting either Bulger, Volek, or Gradkowski. Hasselback goes back to Seattle, Arizona gets Kolb, Buffalo is trying out Fitz for at least another year, Alex Smith seems like he's staying in SF with Kaep as his backup. We're in good position to get Bulger, hell maybe even McNabb which wouldn't be that bad. A hell of a lot better than last year.

Overall, we'll be searching for a vet QB probably along with the Vikings, Dolphins, Redskins, & Titans.

It just depends on what our coaches are thinkin

    • I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying
    • I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.
    • Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
