Steve Smith ready to start fresh with Panthers

Ive never seen it before. After the way he has been acting the past couple years I was just surprised by it.

I love Smitty but he's a really emotional guy, which means theirs lots of ups and down, not super stable. Who cares though, he's a hell of a receiver.

It's been said on this forum for years. The man Steve Smith is about as passionate a person as you will find playing this game. That passion wills him to outperform his peers and play the game at an extremely high level with a maximum amount of competitiveness. That same passion is what makes him lose his mind when he can't accomplish the goal - team or personal. I think in the heat of battle, he could snap on a teammate who doesn't show the same level of passion that he has for the game. Look at how he roasted Jarrett for his laissez faire attitude.

I just don't think you can get Smith without all of his passion; the good and bad. But I'd rather have him on my team any day than to face him as an opponent. So glad it all worked out.

Tuesday at TC, after it ended, all the guys walked out at that far corner.

We were standing further down the field towards the hill behind the fence watching him talk to a couple coaches for about 10 mins. We figure he would just get up and walk off, but he immediately walked over and started signing autographs for people.

Even had a little bit of conversation with us, talked to me about my official playoffs growl towel I had him sign. He said "man, this old school". A couple of us in the crowd said things along the line of yeah, but we will be back there very soon and you will be a big part of it.

He said earlier he was sorry for being an ass and I think he's really making the effort to pay attention to the fans and get back on the right track with the team. I have a feeling he's going to have a very big season.

Two preseasons ago in Miami, Smith spoke to every fan and signed every single Panther fans gear after the game while getting on the bus. He didn't just grab the gear and sign it...he looked at every single fan and had a word with them. It was awesome. D Williams was very much the same.

I think with us worried and begging him to stay, he realized that truly do love him. And would be half the team we are without him I'm sure everywhere he went he got the same questions. "You staying in Carolina Steve?" "I hope you stay with us Steve"

Smith always starts off the year with the best of intentions. Lets see how long it lasts this time. He is always reflective in the offseason andat the beginning of the year. But his competitive fires end up interfering when things start to fall apart.

Just sayin................

Very true. Smith is not a leader, he needs a leader. Cam is a natural leader, so far, so good.

You da man Smitty! And with the new tight Ends, OC, and coach, things seem to be falling into place for the Panthers. And now teams will have to account for quite a few more guys on offense, it won't be so easy to double Smitty anymore.

let's be real.....it will an amazing accomplishment if Smitty can get through the preseason w/o going off on the QBs on this roster.

Same old Smitty.....saying all the right things prior to a season starts. Unable to control himself when he sees crap on the field.

How many QB's did Smith have in the 07 season. Did he go off ever ?

Same with the 09 season. He played the cards we were dealt and kept it moving

Everyone IMO should have lost their composure last year

Jake played great in 07. Moore played great in the end. Vinny T knew what to do.....they QUICKLY took Carr out of the picture.

09 was the end of Jake's career. Jake was Smitty's boy......can't use Jake in a comparison like that with his career imploding before there eyes. Moore then played great.

Smitty has no QB now.....if they shove Clausen in or DA for too long Smitty will explode if there play ain't up to par. 3 days into practice and reports are Smitty looks already annoyed w/ Clausen's throws. Smitty didn't come back here to relive 2010 w/ Jimmy.

i think Smitty can deal w/ Cam's poor play the most.

Example.

Cam misses throw to Smitty.

Cam runs for 21 yards

misses throw to Edwards

Hits Smitty for 12 yard gain

- drive ends with a double trouble TD.....it means points on the board. Smitty is happy as he contributed to drive.

granted a 21 yard scramble ain't the norm but an example of Cam's positive despite the negative.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
