I think Johnson will be worth it

Johnson was behind Peppers in depth and still put up impressing numbers now let's break this down.

In 2008 Johnson had NO starts at all and put up 6 sacks, 25 tackles, and 1 FF.

In 2009 Johnson had TWO starts and put up 4 sacks, 25 tackles, and 2 FF

In 2010, Johnson started all 16 games, 11.5 sacks, 62 tackles, and 1 FF on a bum defensive line.

And I'm sure Rivera and Mcdermontt have reviewed the tape and it has shown Johnson pretty much dominates whenever he's put in the game.

:hurray:

I remember reading something a few years ago. When he played at Georgia the coaches would have to restrict him in practice because he got to to the Qb so much they were having trouble running through the palys and getting the reps they needed. Now dont quote me on that it was something I read and it was like 3 years ago...so.

yeah those rumors have been out since we drafted him.. doesn't seem unreasonable.. no reason it isn't true until refuted..

of course a guy that is arguably a top 3 4-3 DE in the league is worth it

great pass rusher

great against the run

^^does both of those things with virtually zero help from our worthless interior linemen

is 25(24?)

without him we finish dead last in defense

by signing him we not only improved the team but we gave a big middle finger to a division rival in Atlanta

etc

all reasons why he was worth every penny

a lot of scouts felt that had he stayed in Georgia for another year he would be a top DE prospect in the 2008 draft, and even had him rated higher when we drafted him. I remember when our turn came in the 3rd round that year it was pretty much a no-brainer.

He has as much talent as anyone in the league I think, as long as he doesn't get lazy with this new contract. I doubt he does, he isn't Peppers. He's down for this city, unlike Peppers.

Yeah, he might always be compared to Pep in our eyes anyways and as long as he out performs him year after year he will be worth the money.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
