DT Ron Edwards injured

Recommended Posts

Edwards goes on IR and his contract doesn't count against the cap. We will be looking for someone else to replace him. It might be a step down but it will likely be cheaper. Hopefully Hurney can find that diamond in the rough. He is good at finding guys who disappointed their original team or have underacheived only to help them rejuvenate their careers with us. Damione Lewis and Tyler Brayton come to mind. It will be someone that most of us won't know much about.

It seems like we grab some castoff DT in FA or as an injury fill-in and he plays above his head every season.

I thought I read today that new rules mean IR guys will count against cap.

At this point, in order of need would probably be..

For the draft that is.

CB

DT

RG

WR

And we don't have that 3rd anymore so It would be 1st, 2nd, 4th.

Next years CB's all look like studs.

Yeah you got Janoris Jenkins, Kirkpatrick from Bama, Oregon's Cliff Harris who might be a bit of a headcase, and Hosley.

At DT the only player I know too much about is Marcus Forston.

At WR Alshon and Blackmon will lead the way.

But bit early to start thinking about that. I want to enjoy the season.

Yes. As Kurtis Blow would say, those are The Breaks. RT @Larger20 With Edwards done for season, will he still count against the salary cap?

It does.

First of all, our DTs this year aren't really any worse than last year and we were tied for 7th at allowing the lowest YPC in the league. Losing Landri might hurt a little, but he wasn't irreplaceable and the dropoff to McClain probably won't be that big. Is it a bad thing we lost the only FA DT we picked up? Sure. But he wasn't exactly the key piece of the defense. It will survive without him. We didn't have a massive run stopper last year either.

And for all the "waaaah we basically just kept the pieces of a 2-14 team waaaaaaaah" losers, the pieces we kept were also the key pieces of the 12-4 team. The only big losses from that team are Jake (addition by subtraction) and Moose. The key ingredients to that 12-4 team on offense were Deangelo, Stewart, Smitty, and that offensive line. They are what made it happen, and they were all retained. So that "only kept pieces of a 2-14 team" bs has gotta go. It's a weak ass argument.

Yeah all the CB's you mentioned are very good. It's a deep CB draft.

Depends on the DT if we're drafting another NT or a DT.

Alameda Ta'amu, NT, Washington

Height: 6-3. Weight: 330.

I like this guy for us, he's big, kinda quick, a big body in the middle. I follow the PAC-10 as well, seen some of his work.

WR there's also Jeff Fuller, Ryan Broyles. Alshon and Justin get all the attention but there other guys are pretty good too.

I like Dre Kirkpatrick DB from Bama. Reminds me a lot of Quentin Jammer of the Chargers.

Hell yeah, but he needs to use his body to his advantage, in some plays he played like a 5'8 CB when he's a 6'3 beast! He's Probably the best CB in the draft though. Just slightly over the Gamecock Gilmore.

I'd prefer Gilmore over Kirkpatrick though. Not a gamecock fan either. He seems more complete for me.

Maybe we can pick up another Hollis Thomas type guy. A veteran who was injured but has recovered and has something to prove. "Snacks" was pretty good for us that year.
