choose 5 WRs, 3 TEs, 3 RBs, 2 FBs....

I would really like to find someway to keep Barney because I don't know if Shockey can hold up. I wonder too if we'd have signed Olsen first if we would have even gone after Shockey.

A part of me wants to say Shockey would be the odd man out because he only signed a 1-yr deal and he's at the end of his career but I love the attitude he brings to the team.

Remember, Shockey is on a one year deal. So if Barnidge continues to show up like he has been (especially in games), then the staff may try to find a way to keep him on the roster as Shockey's replacement next year. Similar to Olsen, he fits the profile of a pass catching TE Chud likes.

As for the depth chart,

WRs - Smitty, Gettis, LaFell, Naane, Edwards, Pilares

TEs - Olsen, Shockey, Barnidge

RBs - DW, Stewart, Goodson

FBs - Fiametta, Hartsock

Yes, I know the game called for 5 WR, but I think that we will keep six (regardless of what Chud did in Clev.). And for those that say just stash Pilares on the PS, I don't think he would make it there. If you watched any Hawaii games, you'll see that he is a very dynamic player, and he's too good to stay free long, someone would take a shot on him. He's going to be a great slot guy down the road, and I just don't think the team will risk losing him.

I think they'll take a roster slot from somewhere else. After all, while everyone wants to win, this year is as much about getting ready to make some noise next season as anything. So I think you will see some young guys they feel are part of the future retained, even though they may not contribute much this season, while a fan favorite or two who will only have modest contributions may unexpectedly be let go.

But you already have that in Olsen. Without Hartsock who do have to rely on for blocking?

I'd think having a great blocking TE and receiving TE would be more consistneley useful then having two good receiving ones. Especially for a team that possess a strong running game and young Qb's.

Steve Smith

David Gettis

Legadu Naanee

Brandon LaFell

Armanti Edwards

Greg Olsen

Jeremy Shockey

Gary Barnidge

DeAngelo Williams

Jonathan Stewart

Mike Goodson

Tony Fiammetta

Ben Hartstock (as FB)

That said, I think we'll keep 6 WR's and 4 TE's. It's hard to say with RB as I think we'll look to trade Sutton (Detroit needs a RB now with Mikel Leshoure out for the year) but I have a tough time imaging they'd cut Barnidge after the camp he's had and Hartstock was signed for a specific role: blocking, which none of the other TE's can do.

I'm thinking for the 53 man roster:

QB: Cam Newton, Jimmy Clausen, Derek Anderson

RB: DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson, Tyrell Sutton (if not traded)

FB: Tony Fiammetta

WR: Steve Smith, David Gettis, Legadu Naanee, Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, Keaohla Pilares

TE: Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Gary Barnidge, Ben Hartstock

OT: Jordan Gross, Jeff Otah, Jacob Bender, Lee Ziemba

OG: Travelle Wharton, Geoff Schwartz, Duke Robinson

OC: Ryan Kalil, C.J. Davis

DE: Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Eric Norwood, Everette Brown

DT: Terrell McClain, Sione Fua, Corvey Irvin, Andre Neblett

OLB: James Anderson, Thomas Davis, Jordan Senn, Omar Gaither

MLB: Jon Beason, Dan Connor

CB: Chris Gamble, Captain Munnerlyn, Kendric Burney, R.J. Stanford, Cletis Gordon

FS: Sherrod Martin, Jordan Pugh

SS: Charles Godfrey, Sean Considine

K: Olindo Mare

P: Jason Baker

LS: J.J. Jansen

Injured Reserve:

Brandon Hogan

Ron Edwards

Zack Williams

i'm still trying to find out why we NEED 6 WRs. why is it important that we keep 5? is it worth giving up quality and needed depth elsewhere so that we can keep that many?

anyways, the point was if we were going to follow the template used by chud in cleveland and what norv turner does in san diego, what 5 guys would we go with.

TEs - Olsen, Shockey, Barnidge

mentioned him as special teams. That's the way barnidge stays.
who does he replace on special teams? jansen?

I enjoy seeing all these posters just riding Pilares off like he wont be good, especially when they haven't seen him play yet. Reminds me of last year with Gettis. So many of you didn't think he would make the 53 roster, and look at him now. Some of you need to go take football 101 before giving us a look at your scouting skills.
