Expectations for Saturday Night...

Some things to look for Saturday night against the Giants:

  • Really sloppy play, especially from the Panthers, thanks to fewer practices than normal.
  • A more vanilla defense than we will run the regular season. I am sure RR will speak to Couglin and agree to limit blitzes in favor of player safety.
  • Long looks at Naanee, Gary B., and Hartsock on the O. Rivera probably has not yet figured out exactly what he will do with these 3 players. In the case of Naanee, is he a legit candidate for the 2nd spot or not? As to the two tight ends, there is a reasonable shot one will not be here when the season starts, so he needs to get a good look at them in action.
  • At least a couple of designed running plays for Newton.

What would you add to this list?

Fox was slowly becoming one of the few who didn't believe in preseason blitzing......did the Ravens or the teams we have faced recently in preseason agree not to blitz at all?

I don't care about negative plays as they will happen but it is a MUST to see some positive.

    • I think the player matters a lot(in regards to price specifically). Parsons will likely end up being worth the price because he is unquestionably elite. Burns obviously hasn't been until this year because he isn't a consistently elite pass rusher. He is too easy to shut down with just a single blocker.  Guys like Parsons and Garrett that you have to plan your entire blocking scheme around make everyone on the defense better. Truth be told, that isn't Burns on his current line, it's Dexter Lawrence. But, as you pointed out, situations still matter. Joe Burrow may be a truly elite QB but that doesn't matter a lot when he can't stay healthy or the overall team isn't good. Ask Matt Stafford about that in Detroit.   The Panthers aren't in a position to be liquidating the extremely valuable draft picks we have. Our roster is still a bottom 5 overall NFL roster.
    • I don't hate KK. The Canes overpaid and he's enjoying the benefits.  Anyone who assumed he was going to turn into an excellent player based on what the Canes paid him weren't paying attention. Sure, I wish he was much more physical, he's a big guy, and that's really all I was hoping for when he came to Carolina. Danault is better in the FO circle, better defensively and better down the middle, but it's a moot point now.
    • Last year is not this year
