Charly Martin

Martin could end up being the 6th WR if he continues playing like he did in the first game. Clowney isn't eligible for PS. Pilares will not be cut and put on the practice squad. Only 2 times ever since Hurney has been here have we cut a 5th round pick or higher and put him on the PS. And Pilares does not equal the fail of those 2 players.

You have to look at the talent we have on this team. Normally, 5 WRs get it done, but this season, we have too many unproven WRs to limit your options. Besides, if Last week told me anything, it was that Rivera is not about to let a sorry special teams unit ruin his team as in SD.

Charly Martin will make the team for the same reason Barnidge makes the team--special teams and they are both quality depth.

Look at the WRs filling other roles:

Armanti Edwards: PR, Wildcat

Kealoha Pilares: some punt returns/KO, possible gunner

Brandon Lafell: KO returns

Naanee also has ST skills.

Clowney will not make the team, IMO.

The way Hurney talked about Naanee on the radio today, I'm guessing he's staying... I think Clowney will be the one to lose his spot to Martin if he doesn't show something in the preseason... That or we will carry 7 WRs...

It is hard for me to imagine us carrying 7 though, with our need for depth at LB, CB, and DL... and with the possibility of carrying 4 TEs...

Well before the 1st PS game I thought for sure that Clowney would make the roster based on training camp. Didn't see him do much in the PS game though, and Martin made some plays.

Look for Clowney to get some more reps and a chance to make the team, but Martin will be there as well. Based on just that 1st PS game, Martin out performed Clowney. But there is still time to evaluate.

Edit: Not to say Clowney's 11 yard rush wasn't impressive. I liked that play. I just want to see more catches from Clowney if he is going to take a job over Martin. Basically, both guys still have more to prove.
