Would anyone get excited about Taylor Mays?

I remember when Mays was the poo in college, then he had a crappy senior year and his stock went down. I don't think it would be a fair trade unless we got atleast a second round pick. Do we really need a safety with Pugh coming up and Godfrey and Martin in their prime?

Sports radio in SF seems to think there is growing interest in a Clausen for Mays (+ maybe a late rounder) trade given the dismal QB situation and the fact that Mays doesn't fit Harbaugh's defensive scheme.

Aside from the fact that Harbaugh hates Clausen's guts I could see this happening with DA a more than competent backup and the need to shore up the defensive secondary.

First off, i dont think Harbaugh hates Clausen's guts and if he did he wouldnt trade for him and 2nd if a trade did happen, i dont think a pick should be involved and third, a Mays for Clausen trade makes perfect sense. First off, Mays has a ton of potential and his size and speed for a safety is almost unheard of, though he needs to work on his covering and for the 49ers, they need a QB and want to get rid of Mays.

the trade really doesn't make sense. panthers have no room for mays, he wouldn't solve any issues if he was brought in, clausen needs to be sold high, not lowish like he would be right now. the growing interest the radio show talked about is surely that of radio listeners, not anyone involved with the two clubs.

Sweet.

So he's a safety. Why are folks suggesting trades for positions we don't need? How about a DT or CB, or even a WR?

Normally i would agree, but Taylor Mays is very fast and huge for a safety, we do need a WR and it bothers me that no team has signed Mark Clayton. even if he isnt healthy yet, i think he could be a good 2nd WR for a team needing one. Anyways, i dont mind a trade for Mays because he has size and speed in a safety that is almost unheard of, though he does need to work on his covering.

I was laughing for three pages..a second for Claussen...AND Taylor Mays?! He would be incredible in the defensive scheme as a blitzing safety or as a weakside linebacker hybrid.

Wow that td in preseason week 1 erased all of the 2010 season!!

If this is a real trade in the works..Panthers do this yesterday!

Guest Spot On Dtan

You mean the second rounder that the 9ers are trying to trade after just a year?

Is this really where we're taking this, folks?

Now I know there is a dearth of talent on the roster, but Mays?

That guy couldn't cover Grady Jackson on a seam route.

Kinda like our bust of a QB. Id rather have Mays develop in a box SS/ Lber like Thomas Davis was in his first few.

4.3 speed with a massive frame and decent character guy..why not. He would be dominant on special teams.

Claussen will just offer weird stares from the sideline as Newton is doubling pickles TD total in week 3.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
