Proudiddy's Perspective on Preseason Game 2

Game plan or no game plan we still have glaring needs on defense at tackle and cb.I would have expected better out of our DE"s as well considering Jake Long did not even suit up.

On offense our qbs played as you would expect for their tenure but the offensive line gave me flashbacks of last year.The rb's had absolutly no where to go.

I honestly agree with u. Many are so caught up in the QB battle that little scrutiny is given to the other parts of the team.

I read a few of the articles this morning in regards to last night's game and based on those articles, one would walk away with the impression that Cam's already a "bust" after three weeks of TC and two preseason game. Like no real mentioning of how the rest of the team did. All the negative focus and scorn was on Cam. I thought football was a team sport. I guess when ur not the media's choosen QB.

IMO, Cam is playing better than expect considering how much the media created and harped about his inability to read plays and whatever they could find to criticize him about. He worked with what was given to him. Made his mistakes but so did the offense and even more so the defense. How do u allow an opponent to hold on to the ball for practically an entire quarter?

Gotta be honest, it seemed like everyone hated Jake for never checking it down, and they hate Clausen for always checking it down. Newton could really bridge the gap, because he checks it down too much, but not way too much.

You see such a difference in his throws when he steps into it rather than away from it.

Spin it all you want guys - Cam couldn't move the starting offsense past the 50 yard line the entire half he played. If that is your idea of being the most ready then so be it.

they just didn't look prepared for this game. probably because they weren't and they didn't prepare for it.

i'm not going to read to much into this game at all other than that we saw we need the right side of the oline to be healthy, we need help at DT and CB. oh...and we need smitty.

btw...the only reason any QB should start over cam is because they are significantly better than him. clausen didn't show that. he may have looked better but you have to consider who he was facing.

it may have been that the dolphins game planed some, but i would be surprised if that gameplanning went into the 2nd half and included their 2nd and 3rd teamers. it should be any surprise that things got easier in the 2nd.

I get the feeling you are being sarcastic, so let me say this for all out there who believe this-it isn't that simple.

When a rookie QB translates to the NFL, and he feels the pass rush is coming at him at a million miles an hour (even if it isn't), his instinct is to get rid of the ball-not focus on "petty" things like footwork. THAT is the domino effect that causes all the erratic throws.

Feels pass rush>flings ball as quickly as possible>inaccurate pass.

Now on the flip side of this, when a rookie QB realizes he has more time than he initially thought-that is when they start getting their lights knocked out.

The only way to fix this particular problem is with reps. Letting Cam get a feel for the game. Letting him learn to gauge that perfect amount of timing for each play. We've seen Cam have good foot work and make nice passes-now he just needs TIME (aka reps) to continue to grow acclimated with the speed (speed not meaning SPEED, but meaning how fast OR slow any given play can be) of the game.

I might make a thread about this later come to think about it, as a lot of people do not seem to understand it..

Actually the only way he's going to correct his footwork is by working with the QB coach in practice.

You've also pointed out why starting him is not a good idea if he has fundamentals to work on - when an NFL pass rush is coming at him at 1 million miles an hour he's going to forget everything he's worked on during the week and just go back to his natural instinct of throwing off his back foot.

The ONLY way he's going to improve is by sitting for at least half the year and correcting his fundamentals until they become second nature. THEN you can throw the playbook at him and all the game planning that a QB needs to go through.

I think we are looking to much at Cam and Jimmy and not focusing on how our defensive line didnt get no pressure and how our DB's didnt step up. Cam did ok not great but he did some good things. So did Jimmy. But the defense stayed on the field for 23 mins out the 20 mins in the first half giving came only 3 drives. Its hard to catch momentum when you have no rhthym established. Cam will be our starter and i think by next game you will see improvement.He seemed really mad at himself and when cam gets frustrated he takes care of the problem.
