Panthers vs Bengals (Don't get too excited)

Think of the Bengals as last years Panthers. Their starting QB actually retired instead of choosing to stay on the team because the Bengals wouldn't trade him stating that "Cincinnati is where quarterback careers go to die." They traded their number one receiver who had been disgruntled with the team for some time.

No one can believe Marvin Lewis is still around and is by all accounts is a lame duck coach just waiting to get fired.

The team won 4 games last year and so far in the preseason they have lost both of their games to scores of:

34-3 and 27-7...ewww

If you also look at the Giants team we played I can point to some glaring negative omens for that team as well.

I have optimism for the Panthers in the future. I think our team will only get better as the season goes on. Just take this game with a grain of salt, and don't look to deep into it if we crush the Bengals.

Look at it as a good game for Newton to get more reps and get more comfortable with the offense; and for the DTs, WRs and CBs to continue to improve.

Let's just have some long sustaining drives with good 3rd down efficiency.

My concern in this game is for our defense... not Cam or our offense.

If we let them get more than 10 points on us before the start of the 4th quarter, we have serious... serious problems on the D side of the ball.

And if our D is garbage, it doesn't matter if Newton was throwing like Tom Brady and running like Vick... we aren't gonna win games.

You mean don't take a preseason win seriously?

OMGWTFBBQ

Its the 3rd Preseason game. Both teams are trying to win and bounce back from tough losses to raise the spirits of the club.

While this game isn't as serious as a regular season game and no one will tell you it is both clubs really want a W.

I'm expecting the Panthers to take it.

this.

i already pointed this out in another thread. the defense will be the reason Carolina will or won't win games...too much pressure will be put on cam (or Clausen) to carry the team if the defense doesn't produce.

    • I've actually been very complimentary of him.  I have said that I think he will get the bulk of receptions and yards. I have said I think he will be a 1k yard reciever thia year. He has issues tho and I guess no one is allowed to point them out.
    • We don't have to lie, 4.8 was official and there were scouts who had him in the 4.54 to 4.57 range
    • Think the "official time" put out was 4.48, but there were a lot of scouts there who of course all had difference times as it's all handed timed by them.  Think I saw it as low as 4.43 and as high as 4.62 or something, but in the end it's all basically the same speed because 40 yard dash is so pointless. Anyone who complains about his speed is just someone who wants a Chase/Jefferson/Nabers style #1 as opposed to an Evans style #1 who isn't going to beat you because of his speed but his other abilities. In the end, he's fast enough for a player his size and surprisingly quicker and more agile than people give him credit for too. The real problem is that Panthers fans can't get our past big WR failures out of their head, they hear "big WR" and automatically see a plodding KB or Jarrett in their minds and assume that's also T-Mac.
