Cam is not ready

Said it elsewhere. You start a rookie on a bad/transitional team under one of two conditions:

a) the team around him is good enough to carry him

b) he's good enough to lead the team, even if it's bad

Neither of those conditions apply to the 2011 Panthers.

Yeah, I'm beginning to see the light. I think Cam's showing promise as a rookie but not enough to overcome this. And in particular, I thought we were average to above defensively, but that clearly isn't the case.

Our DT's aren't ready while were at it.

For the love of god we have to make a move.

As long as it doesn't involve trading future picks.

This season is likely going to suck regardless. I'm not up for mortgaging the future just to make it suck a little less.

The point about Dalton was that if the media really was favoring him over Cam, they could have spun his story positively, but they didn't. Why? Because he didn't play that well.

I don't pick cam apart for every ball that hit the ground - I like to let other posters analyze his game.

I don't expect him to be perfect by a long shot, but I just felt that after tonight it was clear he isn't ready to carry this offense, and because of that, he isn't ready to start. But he may be our best option, so...

I would completely agree with u if Cam had a complete off season but considering that he didn't and had a lot of pressure on him to do things none of the other rookie QBs were demanded to do, IMO, I think he has done as well as expected.

IMO, there is way to much paranoia when it comes to this kid. I guess a lot of it came from the fear mongering that was done against him by the media during the draft season cause when I go back and check the preseason for other QBs Cam isn't doing bad at all. Especially when u take into consideration that he hasn't had OTA and full training.

Heck when did Jimmy finally played with the 1st team during last year's preseason games. It seemed like he played with the 2nd and 3rd for the first two games...Or came in and relieved Moore during one of the games...But IMO, I really believe that the media over-hyped Jimmy at the expense of Moore.

sitting cam behind two guys who will not be here long term & haven't shown they are hands down better options makes no sense IMO. unlike last year we have a staff that is going to be here for awhile & have some weapons at te to make his transition smoother. the lockout really hurts us more than most teams & we already knew this going in.

Cam looks like he is thinking of the plays to hard. It looks like he is saying in his head, " drop back, scan my reads, don't panic and take off running, ok now throw the ball but don't throw it too hard!" He looks as if he is afraid to make a mistake and is holding back

Jimmy never played with the 1s as far as I know... I don't know if Jimmy's "hype" hurt Moore or not, I kind of doubt it but you never know.

I am not saying that Cam Newton's progress so far is poor or anything like that. I'm not saying he's bad or he's done or anything close to it. I'm not saying he should be further along.

All I'm saying is that the offense in it's state now seems more likely to harm Cam's future here than to help it if he starts very early (we're talking regular season here, not preseason).

I agree, it's as if he's trying to be something that he's not out there.

There's nothing wrong with running for 493930 yards a game, as long as a rookie he's progressing as a QB and always working on his mechanics.

I just want Cam to play like he knows how. When he was scrambling, and stepping into his throws, throwing bullets was when I was most impressed.

I know he has pressure, but he needs to have a little fun out there.

It makes sense to sit him for at least part of the season if we have no chance of being good, and he has no chance of making things better. Put a guy like Anderson, who has no role in our future, in there for the time being and in the meanwhile, we can can all salivate for the arrival of Cam.

Why not start Cam?

Because he is trying to do too much and doesn't yet have the game down enough to be effective without a lot of help.

Until we can sort out some of the o-line/running game problems, our QB is going to be a sacrificial lamb.

Do you want Cam to be put in that situation? Do you want yet more abuse heaped on Jimmy? Let DA play and take his lumps. It may not be entirely fair for him but it will at least be a chance for him to resurrect his career.

Newton will be fine. He has looked very composed throughout. At this point he has had no help. The running game is AWOL and pass protection has been horrible. We have noone who can get open. The D can't get off the field. Getting rolled by Cincy the way the D got rolled is a very bad sign.

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
