Why you start Cam

If you rewatch some of those run plays, the Bengals OLINE just ran up and blocked one of our DEs and LB at the same time, and it looked like he was barely trying.

The Bengals LT could probably block 3 of our guys at the same time.

You can the see the difference when Cam is in and when Clausen is in. Anderson is the grey area since he hasnt even taken a snap in preseason. But between Clausen and Cam Cam is the better option.

Wrong partner Derek Anderson played vs NYG. He threw the 35yd bubble screen to Pilares. Sometimes I wonder just how closely many Huddlers and fans actually follow the team beyond Sportscenter.

It's simple unless jimmy is greatly ahead of cam; you go with cam. Is Jimmy playing better? Yes, but if cam is playing c- ball Jimmy is playing c+ so you go with cam.

Sucks for Jimmy since he got a raw deal last year but to quite the great philosopher "it is what it is"

I was shocked by the D we saw...not just performance but the called scheme. With it being the 3rd preseason game I expected more blitzing and doing it in creative ways. Too often it looked like Fox's D....rush the front 4 and sit back.

Actually they were blitzing quite a bit last night. But the defensive secondary were so bad that Dalton had a number of wide open receivers on every play. The problem with blitzing is that you have to get to the quarterback and fast. How many sacks did we have against Dalton?? And when we rushed less than 6, they had all day to throw.

I do think we are holding back on the blitz packages in terms of creativity to not tip our hand in the preseason. But the lack of pressure from the fromt 4 is ridiculous. And all of this is complicated by the fact that they were rarely in third and long situations last night. Blitzing works when you can force the offense to do what you want them to do. Stone them on first and second down and then force them to throw on third and long. Instead they ran at will against us and had a number of third and shorts. When you give up almost 300 yards in the first half alone, your problem isn't blitzing but being fundamentally sound in all phases of the defense. And we clearly are not.

I agree that between Clausen and Cam,,,,,,, Cam is the better option. That part is clear to me. The "unfortunate" part is I was in the camp of bringing in a Veteran to start this season and would have liked to see that. I dont think Derek Anderson is that good BUT would have thought he would get more playing time to see if maybe he was the best QB on the roster right now.

The above all being said, its gonna be Cam and I am excited to see how he does over the course of the season. You can definately see the upside in him.

One final note.... if the defense keeps playing the way they have these past two weeks its gonna be a long season not matter what!!!!!!!!1

Agree to start Cam over Jimmy.

However, that is like deciding if you want to be shot in the head or in the chest. Fact is that both options scuk.

I am in the camp to actually give DA a chance.

I was in that camp as well and maybe he will play next week most of the way. I am not sure why he has gotten virtually no reps in camp or in games unless they brought him in solely as a last chance option or once he got here they were severely disappointed in him. Can't really see putting him out there unless he gets some reps with the 1s and plays the whole game next week.

because they have their eyes on the future and they know that anderson isn't part of it.

agree with it or not, the best way for most people to learn is by getting in the game. they learn faster that way. sure, it can be painful to watch and painful to be a part of, but it's effective.

people will throw out names like david carr to show how bad it can be for a starter to go out there too early. consider this, there was never going to be any time that wasn't too early for carr. he wasn't a tough guy coming into the league. the experience he had early on in texas just exposed what was there quicker. a fragile psyche.

people will also throw out names like aaron rodgers who "benefited" from sitting on the bench a couple years behind bret favre. first, did he really benefit from it? maybe. it's hard to prove one way or the other. second...he was sitting behind bret favre. if a rookie comes into the league and there is an established vet already entrenched in the starting role, it makes sense for him to sit until they move the old guy on. it's his team. in the case of a rookie in this situation, there is no starter entrenched in the role. it's nobody's team. it makes very little sense to force the guy to wait to take over what will be his team and his position when he could just go ahead and take it over and struggle and grow together with his team in battle. it might be ugly, but it's building chemistry and it's building a team.

they (the team and cam himself) have to get cam up to speed and ready to start. as nice as it would be for everyone, getting ready to start doesn't necessarily mean getting ready to win a lot of games, much less be an all pro. he has to know the playbook, the team has to respond to him on the sidelines and in the huddle, and he has to show an ability to work hard, learn fast, and take coaching and criticism well. if he shows that and they intend on him being around for a long time, the earlier they can get him out there, the better. if he's too weak to handle the job, they'll find out and it's better finding out sooner than later. if he is strong enough, they'll find out as well.

before we right him, the coaching staff, or this team off, lets wait to see how they respond to this.

last year many of them just threw their hands up in the air and let the losses come. several stood up and fought the whole way. those guys are now leading the team on the field. other fighters were brought in this year as well. lets see what these players can do to get the players around them to tighten up.

we have a new coaching staff, a new HC who just got embarrassed on the big stage. the HC is young and new to the role and he's known for running a tight ship defensively...for having a very disciplined style of coaching and players. he's let them play. now it's time for the general to get them right.

it's still early. regular season is still a couple weeks a way. it would be better if they had more time and they might not be in peak shape by the time the season starts, but they'll be better. i'm confident in saying that they will be much better. there's no where to go but up.

Why you start Cam?

...because Jimmy Clausen and Derek Anderson are your backups.

Even if you started Clausen, chances are he would get hurt in a couple of weeks like he did last year behind our OL. With Cam you have a mobile QB who gets some valuable experience and reps in his rookie year. On the job training as they put it. No brainer.

Fans only know so much about how well a player in coming along. I mean, just look at Denver where The Golden Calf of Bristol looked solid in practice and during preseason games... looked sharp too. As Fox what he thinks of The Golden Calf of Bristol, and they have him 4th string!!! haha

I mean, I think the media and fans are trying to do a good job of over-hyping a rookie QB who isn't ready. I just hope the Panthers aren't pressured by the fans to start Cam and start CAm because he really is ready to play.

The guy isn't making Sam Bradford money. We can afford to let him sit at least one or two pro games from the bench and become adjusted to the speed. If I was the Panthers, I start Derek game because no matter who we start, we'll loose anyway. Our defense is just as crappy as our offense...
