Vick signs a six-year, $100 million contract.

Personally I wouldn't have done it, but that's just me.

Why not let him play out one more year, and franchise him again? The cap his saving is only 2 M. It just doesn't make sense.

That is a valid point and I was thinking the same thing at first. Thing is, Vick is the undisputed leader of that team. All of his teamates and the organization as a whole love him. Not only that but he is probably one of the most popular guys amongst the NFL players and is the biggest reason so many people signed with the Eagles in the off season. An unhappy Vick who could get a season ending injury this year and no contract would not be in the best interest of making a run this season.

I hear ya. Not sure I agree, but I hear ya.

I'm not really sure that Vick is all that great of a leader, but that's just me, I certainly am not in that locker room or in the FO.

You are right that it is odd to hear that Vick is viewed by so many as a leader but he is. Never thought I would see the day either. If things stay on this path, then it is quite a comeback and quite a good story.

Just to show how much the Eagles believe in him, there are reportedly no clauses that void the contract in anyway for off field conduct. I found that interesting.

You know that franchise tag you mentioned? Don't be surprised if that gets slapped on Desean if they can't get a deal done with him before then. I hope it don't come to that, because DJax can be a problem.

I'm not sure they even need such a clause. If he has any serious off the field issues then there's a good chance he's permanently banned from the league, automatically voiding any contract.

Not convinced he's earned it yet.

Defenses were doing a way better job of adapting to him by year's end. Were I the Eagles, I'd have waited another year.

Maybe not until next year, then you'd have to worry about franchising him again or letting him hit free agency. And with DJax not locked up long term they have to worry about him as well and you can't franchise them both.

I'd have waited till about week 6-8 though. If he's still playing at an MVP level by then nobody questions the move. If he isn't you can get him for a cheaper deal or decide not to extend him at all depending on how much he's fallen off.

Wow, not sure what that says about the Eagles, but if true, then good for Vick.

I like the leverage, that will help in the Desean signing, but I don't think it's really needed. Yes, he can bust off a big one, but he is still only a 50 - 60 catch per season player. With size issues.

Seems like Vick won't see much of that guaranteed money.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/31/vicks-creditors-win-with-new-contract/

Quote from article:

“It’s a beautiful thing,” Vick bankruptcy trustee Joseph Luzinski told Bloomberg.com, adding that the money should “substantially clean up all of the claims.”

Vick originally owed his creditors $20 million, but Luzinski said that, to date, Vick has paid off only a “couple million.” The Falcons are the largest creditor, with a debt of $7.5 million arising from bonus money that Vick was forced to repay after defaulting on his contract with the team, via his dogfighting conviction.

For the Falcons, it could be about more than getting money back. The Falcons also could get salary cap credits, as the money comes in from Vick. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells PFT via e-mail that such matters are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and that the question of whether the Falcons will receive cap credits is currently under review.

David Teel of the Newport News Daily Press reports that, based on Vick receiving $20 million in 2011, $6.76 million will go to creditors, $8 million will go to taxes, and Vick will receive net pay of $5.24 million.

Taking Luzinski’s “couple million” estimate literally, that means the creditors will still be owed another $11.24 million after 2011. In 2012, Vick is due to make $12.5 million. In 2013, it’ll be either $16.5 million or $15.5 million.

    • Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.
    • I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
    • I’ve haven’t seen anything that says we have interest in Njoku?
