Godfrey Extended

I think Hurney and Rivera are in a much better position than I to say if C-God is worth the money. Rivera obviously thinks that in his system C-God is worth that money. Doesn't mean they'll turn out to be right or wrong but I'll defer my opinion to that of the guy with a lifetime of playing and coach experience who sees him everyday.

Ok, so isn't being in position to catch a tipped ball part of having good coverage. I've never seen a fan base complain so much about the way a player gets int's, would you prefer he dropped them. Also no one says you can't judge a player but unless you have access to "coach film" that allows you to see how Godfrey performs on a play from start to finish, don't try to judge him by the tail end of a play that you see. This forum isn't smarter than two coaching staffs

Ohhh yea nice try with the Foster thing....cute

No. You don't have to be in position and where you need to be to catch a ball batted up another defender has attempted to make a play on.

No, I wouldn't prefer he dropped them....I would give those random INTs up for him to be more consistant in his coverage though. There are some plays you don't need coaches film to see someone blow an assignment or get beat like a drum.

No one is claiming to be smarter than the coaches. Extending Delhomme was a dumb move.....Gamble was overpaid.....Marty has made many mistakes. He has made many that fans have been able to intelligently call ahead of time.

Despite popular belief. It is ok to disagree with a move your team makes, and still be considered a fan.IE-Cleveland wanting to kill Testaverde and Belichick back in the day. And the dog pound has some of the greatest fans around. They way I see it is that to win a super bowl you have to have at least a few of the most dominating players at their position. He is clearly average at best, he could not go to an elite team in the NFL and start. To me on defense Beason and Anderson are all alone and this doesn't help much.

Many people are claiming to be smarter than the coaches. Not coming and saying it. But unless you know where godfrey is coached to be by our coaches, you really have no base line to even judge.

I can't believe how many people complain about how godfrey gets his interceptions.

And unless you are willing to admit Minter was worse in coverage, the argument is a moot point. Godfrey is a good safety. No, he isn't elite. There are only a few elite safeties...most teams do not have elite safeties. Get over your weak arguments, and move on.

Ya don't have to have an elite safety to have an elite defense.

Not complaining and definitely not claiming to be smarter than the coaches. Just saying that they do make mistakes. I am just sayin to win the super bowl we are going to need more than just guys to fill the need. We need top players at their positions at least a few. Ask yourself seriously how many teams he starts on. None of them makes the playoffs. Oh and by the way I could care less how he gets interceptions as long as he gets them. And I hope he can make a tackle tomorrow or Fitz will have a field day.

I am not dragging examples for you. All you have to do is read. Every time someone has an opinion here, they think they are smarter than coaches or they or trolls. All of us want the same thing WINS and most of us will not agree how to do it. Does not make anyone smarter than anyone else, just fans frustrated with losing and giving top money to an average player.

Thing is, EVERYONE is frustrated.

    • Sometimes it's nice to get an outside perspective on things we are emotionally invested in. NYT/Athletic did a midway breakdown of every teams' biggest offseason acquisitions. Here's our part: Notable additions: Nikolaj Ehlers ($8.5 million x six years), K’Andre Miller (acquired in exchange for a conditional 2026 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and Scott Morrow) Early return: It took the Hurricanes some time to find Ehlers’ ideal lineup fit. He began the season on a line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis, but that combination didn’t really click, with their marquee signing registering just four points in his first 11 games. Since then, though, Ehlers has settled in and found his groove. The dynamic, speedy Danish winger has scored 27 points in his last 31 games. He initially built chemistry with Logan Stankoven and Jackson Blake, but with Jarvis’ injury, he’s been bumped back up to the top line with Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, with this new-look trio clicking impressively. Ehlers’ game-breaking puck-carrying ability has added an exciting new dimension to Carolina’s rush attack. He’s been a consistently dangerous play-driver (Carolina’s controlled 60 percent of scoring chances during his five-on-five shifts) and I’d argue his point production has actually undersold his impact on Carolina’s offense. Ehlers has collected a point on just 52 percent of the five-on-five goals he’s been on the ice for — he’s been snakebitten and has deserved to pick up a few more assists. I’m also still a fan of Carolina’s expensive bet on Miller. Yes, he’s made occasional mistakes and has been narrowly outscored during his five-on-five minutes despite his strong underlying metrics, but context is important. Miller was supposed to lead Carolina’s second pair, but Jaccob Slavin’s injuries (he’s only played five games this season) have forced him to take on a larger top-pair role. That’s meant eating a career-high 22:35 per game and handling some of the toughest matchups of all NHL defensemen. Miller has held his own in this daunting role, and I’d expect his performance to level up once Slavin’s return allows him to settle into the second-pair slot he was actually acquired to fill.
