McDermott's Defense

... Is going to be good.

Starting two rookie DTs, All-Pro MLB goes out of the game, playing with a career nickle as your #2 CB against a pass-happy offense, and five weeks to teach this groups the defensive scheme.

I like the way the new defense is heading, and I think that I'm eventually going to love this defense.

I gotta admit.. those rookie DTs did much better than I thought they would

however, our defense let 2 receivers (King and Doucet) run down field completely uncovered, that turned into 14 points.. if they can fix that kind of stuff then we are in business

Doucet's TD was a blown tackle and the same with the kick return. Can't blame coaches or schemes for that unless mis-tackles become a common occurance.

ok i saw everyone bashing mcdermott but we got no clue who busted the coverage. this is a new system like the op pointed out. when we dont blitz ppl complain...when we do ppl complain. two tds were blown coverage. mcdermott wasnt on the field playing. one td was a punt return. so our defense thatwe believed was going to get steamrolled only gave up 21.

Whoa whoa whoa.

Captain played well today. Gamble played extraordinary. Godfrey was solid, but had some busted plays.

Sherrod Martin, the lone man in the who escaped huddle criticism this offseason? He was teh suk.

We HAVE to get better up front. These persistent jailbreak blitzes on 3rd and long are terrible-they DID work a few times, but they also cost us 14 points, we must be able to generate more pressure from the front 4. That said, the front 4 played the run very well after the first quarter.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
