I would like to thank you all for the kind words and pm's

Jake was almost 14 when he died that is a good run for a weim' average life exp is 10 years and it was a great run..

Jake was my 1st dog that was mine, I grew up with dogs but never had one that belonged just to me. I didn't consider him a pet or just a dog he was my child. Jake has slept next to me since he was a puppy and to sleep w/o him has been very difficult. My house feels so empty.

I have Jake's ashes we plan on taking part of his ashes and releasing him to the ocean he liked the beach. I will bury some of the ashes when I pick up his head stone. I made a nice display for him with his rest of his ashes with pictures and his collar that will be on my mantle.

I feel better knowing he is till here with me but the pain is still sharp.

I didn't want to bring this thread back up but I wanted to thank you all again for the kind words it did help me with the pain..

This is one of the last pics took of Jake he just woke up, lol

he was not happy with me.

As information for those of you who own pets- most vets will now come to your home and painlessly euthanize your pet in the comfort of the home they know.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, our black lab was 15 years old and over the last couple years of her life began having a myriad of health issues. But get her within 100 yards of the vet's office and she began shaking uncontrollably and was impossible to calm... and she was blind by then.

But when it came time, our vet was more than willing to come to our house with her assistant and make our Dame Frankie Maxine comfortable one more time. She got to lay in her favorite spot on her favorite blanket with both of us there and we all said good bye.

I would have it no other way from now on. Brings on the tears just typing this... and it's been over a year.

That's awesome that you got to do that for her. And also that you got to do that for you.

What a gorgeous boy. I am really sad for you and I understand the devastation at losing a beloved dog or cat. You don't have to have dogs to understand what it's like to lose a beloved family member (like a child for me too). I am a catwoman and I love dogs too. I just don't have the time to devote to a dog at the moment until I change my job and locale.

I keep the ashes of my baby nearby and not a day goes by that I don't feel his loss. It does get better with time and it helps to have another one to love. You never forget the one that is gone but the pain and loss feels less acute if you have another one to warm your heart. I waited about 4 months before I got a new kitty and she's warmed my heart in different ways. I hope you will find room in your life for another dog after you give yourself some time to heal from this.

He is running around in a dog kind of heaven, licking your face while you sleep and giving you one of those looks that says he'll see you again one day. He's always there close by your side even if you don't have his physical presence there.

I was freakin gout a coupe of months ago when my cat didn't come home when I called her. (My Condo is setting out Cat traps to catch strays and they have a leash law for cats! (Very few cats are leash trained!)

I had images of my cat trapped in one of the condos cat traps, was getting pissed off by the minute! She will go outside when it get's dark and just sits on the front porch. All I have to do is call her or whistle for her and she come runnning in. Not that time. I was out rolling around the condo complex at 2:00AM looking for her!

I was worried and pissed at the same time!

I was never so happy when she came home!

So hang in there! Never easy to lose a loved one! When you feel you're ready to the Humane Society and get a companion!

Dogs In Heaven?

An old man and his dog were walking down this dirt road with fences on both sides, they came to a gate in the fence and looked in, it was nice grassy, woody areas, just what a 'huntin' dog and man would like, but, it had a sign saying 'no trespassing' so they walked on. They came to a beautiful gate with a person in white robes standing there. "Welcome to Heaven" he said. The old man was happy and started in with his dog following him. The gatekeeper stopped him. "Dogs aren't allowed, I'm sorry but he can't come with you."

"What kind of Heaven won't allow dogs? If he can't come in, then I will stay out with him. He's been my faithful companion all his life, I can't desert him now."

"Suit yourself, but I have to warn you, the Devil's on this road and he'll try to sweet talk you into his area, he'll promise you anything, but the dog can't go there either. If you won't leave the dog, you'll spend Eternity on this road."

So the old man and dog went on. They came to a rundown fence with a gap in it, no gate, just a hole. Another old man was inside. "S'cuse me Sir, my dog and I are getting mighty tired, mind if we come in and sit in the shade for awhile?"

"Of course, there's some cold water under that tree over there. Make yourselves comfortable"

"You're sure my dog can come in? The man down the road said dogs weren't allowed anywhere."

"Would you come in if you had to leave the dog?"

"No sir, that's why I didn't go to Heaven, he said the dog couldn't come in.

We'll be spending Eternity on this road, and a glass of cold water and some shade would be mighty fine right about now. But, I won't come in if my buddy here can't come too, and that's final."

The man smiled a big smile and said "Welcome to Heaven."

"You mean this is Heaven? Dogs ARE allowed? How come that fellow down the road said they weren't?"

"That was the Devil and he gets all the people who are willing to give up a life long companion for a comfortable place to stay. They soon find out their mistake, but then it's too late. The dogs come here, the fickle people stay there. GOD wouldn't allow dogs to be banned from Heaven. After all, HE created them to be man's companions in life, why would he separate them in death?"
