Did we misuse money on DeAngelo?

But are you saying we overpaid him because of his ability/stage in his career or more because there were other pressing needs?

Personally, I feel that DeAngelo can still play at a high level and have no problem with that contract if Stewart wasn't on the roster. But with the way our offense is structured DeAngelo's money might not have been used right.

Im saying we refinanced a 2005 Bentley when we had a 2008 Bentley in the driveway.

Right now I say yes. People are saying DeAngelo has "caviar feet", meaning he got his money now he aint running the same. I was in favor of us bringing him back. I will say he still has time to prove his worth in 2011, but right now hands down Stewart looks like the better back and looks like he's more than capable of carrying the load. It does seem like the entire league is shifting away from running.

Can we hold off on these questions until the end of the season at least?

By then we'll know the impact he'll have on this offense.

2 games into the season is premature.

this times 100000000000000.

how many other players have had a slow first two games in the history of the panthers that've turned out to be damn good?

NO it has been just as good and is a newer model.

There is no defending his extension.

It was a "thank you" deal by JR.

and thats fine I can handle that.

But in the end, San Diego did simiilar with Tomlinson vs Turner

I agree with you about the money but for different reasons. I don't think Dlo's ability has anything to do with it. If the tables were turned and Stewart was up for extension I'd still have the same feeling. Love them both but using money on two of them isn't as wise when you see this offense and the needs on defense.

But that 2005 Bentley hadn't shown signs of slowing down. Plus, the 2008 hadn't shown signs of being head and shoulders better than the 2005. You can't always go off potential.

your 2005 Bentley went into the shop in 2009 and 2010. It didn't run well inbetween those shop visits nor now that it is back out again.......

the engine is knocking....your radio is up too loud to notice.

so deangelo williams is having a slow start?

cool. no problem.

in the mean time, he is losing playing time to stewart because he hasn't put himself in a position to be utilized in other areas...such as pass protection and receiving.

when the run game does get going, stewart isn't going to see less playing time.

for $43m dollars, williams should be on the field doing whatever he can now, not later.

I remember ranting when he was re-signed. Last year he showed he had clearly lost a step and his high mileage was catching up to him. He's what, 28? Running backs should be paid that kind of money at 25 when they are in their prime. We had Jonathan Stewart who is in his prime right now, and Goodson has barely gotten a shot. We didn't need Deangelo...I think it was more nostalgia and paying him for what he already did than for what he's going to do. Hurney seems to do that with treasured veterans...IE Jake Delhomme.

Good grief. Williams hasn't lost anything. We have played two games and both opponents have game planned to stop the run and make the rookie QB beat them. I promise you that there will be some games coming up where Williams and the running game will be big for us. These knee jerk judgments are ridiculous.

Judging by the first two games, which is a small sample size, yes. DWill will have to have a monster season for me to change my mind though. With Stewart/Goodson (and at one point Sutton) I would have been going in with that, IF that meant signing a DT and/or a CB. Imagine our defense with a good DT and a CB out there?

IF we can't get a run game going against Jacksonville, we have a serious issue on our hands.

The last time Deangelo Williams had a 100+ yard game was 11/19/09 against the Dolphins. 22 months ago. His last TD was against New Orleans on 10/3/10. Before that, his last TD was 11/8/09 against New Orleans. For the record, the Panthers lost all those games.

Make whatever excuses and promises you want. He hasn't been effective since mid-season 2009 but still got the big contract, and that's what this thread is about. Knee jerk judgements????
