Did we misuse money on DeAngelo?

He looks as slow as ever, doesn't even try to cutback.

As much as it breaks my heart to agree with this, I must. Yesterday, Deangelo was split out wide and ran a go route, and AJ Hawk was all over him. DeAngelo had no speed or burst to get by him, like I am sure that he would have 2 years ago. After seeing that, I was convinced that that injury last year took something from him physically. Everybody who knows me on this forum knows how much I love DeAngelo. Watch him carry a no name collegiate program on his back for 4 years. Watching that game yesterday, and the Arizona game prior, he is without a doubt not the same player I saw, going back to 2009.... That swing pass to #28 where #28 damn near broke Collison's neck by hurdling over him, DeAngelo doesn't make that play. Chris Johnson doesn't make that play. Darren Mcfadden doesn't make that play. That 29 yard run against Arizona #28 had where it was called back, DeAngelo doesn't make that play. At this point, there is no denying that #28 is a better player, and if he was handed the keys, he would emerge as arguably the best damn back in the league. It's frustrating to watch DeAngelo right now, because he was wasted for 2 years on the sideline. He could have done so much more in this league. That is why he is slick blasting John Fox, because I believe he is kind of bitter with how he was handled when he first broke into the league. He donated a bunch of money this lame as University of Memphis football program that recently lost 42-7 to Arkansas St. We here in Memphis will always love him. He made it. He made it from a tiny town in Wynne, Ar and became a successful pro and an even better man. I keep it real. A spade is a spade. And right now, Stewart is better. He is a damn dog. A pitbull. He runs as if the man who is trying to tackle him shot his mother and he is going to take justice in his own hands. Darnell Dockett tried to tackle him last week and he bounced off of him as if he wasn't shii. He runs harder, h breaks more tackles, he blocks better, he catches better, he runs after the catch better, and defenses are scared to try and tackle him. He is ba better player now. Simple and plain(In my Cam Newton voice). DeAngelo can still play. He can still put up numbers if he was being featured. But Stewart at this point is better. So, to answer the question, absolutely. The money should have been utilized elsewhere. Ron Rivera said it best. Little brothers eventually grow up. #28 may have started out as the little brother(backup), but he has grown up(starter). In the words of the "great" John Fox, "It is what it is."

Regardless of slow start I was/am of the opinion he should have been allowed to walk. You just don't sign aging RB's to big contracts especially when you already have their successor on the team and playing on their first contract.

Of course I'm not an authority, but it would seem that in this day a successful running game depends on the scheme and line more than the individual. Keep your money and higher picks dedicated to the lines, and pick up some healthy mid/later round RB's every year. They can do the job just fine when they are young and fearless like that.

Williams was one of if not my favorite Panthers and I was wanting him to be drafted at the time. I just don't see the logic in keeping him around when considering the greater good of the team.

of course we did and you shouldn't have needed his slow start to convince you

I am not concerned about his slow start. I don't know how you could blame him for a slow start considering the offensive scheme he is in. I'm concerned about the utilization of him. I realized we were changing philosophies but I guess I didn't realize the lack of carries our RBs would be getting.

Umm me panthro and a couple others have been saying this from the start.

Wouldn't Cullen Jenkins or Coefield look nice next to our rookie DT's ?

Or Jonathan Joseph?

DWill was a BigCat please the fans luxury signing.

I love the guy, but would rather have Stew at this point in their careers.

Not to mention we would have gotten a 3rd comp pick.

you're retarded bro. Deangelo is 10 times the player stew is. Im tired of u dweebs here disrespecting the GOAT Panthers RB mkeplg.jpg

I wanted to re-sign him from day 1, but we did give him too much money, whether or not it was meant as a message to our young team, or how valuable the FO thinks Deangelo really is.

But it is too early to base our run game off of 2 games in a shortened offseason.

Deangelo and stewart were meant to be used as a tanden in order to wear down opposing defenses. Until they get a chance to have 25+ combined touches a game, it is not fair to evaluate they're performance.

This team and coaching staff needs more time to determine our strong-points and weaknesses. When they figure out how to balance the offense 50-50 between the QB and the RBs, we will have the ability to build a lead early, and then rely on the run-game to close the deal.

Give them just a little more time.

this is 2011. Not how the NFL works.

Williams' slow start begain when he went to IR in 2009. He has never started backup again......

people continue to overlook that and try to explain it away.

Chud ain't afraid to run a productive RB....his past has proven that. But Chud nor we should be looking for Foxball and Fox usage of RBs.

The DeAngleo move was a bad move the moment Fox left.

half the teams in the NFL are averaging at least 100 yards on the ground a game.

the team w/ the best backfield (and most invested in it) in the NFL is ranked 29th.

And we are ranked at the very top in passing offense.

What part of "Teams came out hell bent on stopping the run and trying to force a rookie QB to beat them" don't you understand?

We have faced 8-9 man fronts....we have faced constant run blitzes. Cam has made them pay and now you will see teams change the way they defend us. At that time, you will see the running game pick it up big time.
