Gross talks about the Red Zone

Mr. Scot

I think it would've been better if Gross had not picked this particular battle in a public medium.

What battle? Are you reading his comments right? He is calling his own line out not Chud. As captain I think he is in a position to do that. He is giving Chud support for not calling run plays.

Rivera said in one of his pressers or locker room interviews that they feel like guys are just missing by half a second to open big gaps for the backs, and it's the sort of thing they are working on to correct. I really do think they'll get it done. Gross probably said what he said out of frustration because they really could have had 21 points against GB in no time on Sunday. Not sure if he should have said it in an interview, but I don't think it will turn into that big of a deal. Coach will probably sit him down, tell him he shouldn't do it, and then tell him the O-line needs to step their game up if they want to be able to run more.

From Steve Reed: Panthers Looking to Step Up Red Zone Offense

If you're Rob Chudzinski or Ron Rivera, does a comment like this one - made to the media by one of your team leaders - bother you?

The O-line finally stepping up and admitting they are poo when it comes to running?

Maybe. But any level headed football fan knew this already. So did the other teams and their coaches.

The only thing this may be a surprise for are those fans that are trying to still figure out what an O-line is.

Anyone that disagrees with what he's saying is an imbecile. Plain and simple. We have to commit to running the ball more. Have to get in a rhythm.

No, they have to improve before we can be in a position to commit more to it. Gross and company can't even run inbetween the 20s......right now. They deserve no more reps in the redzone than they are getting until they do something with the reps they are getting.

First post. Don't rip it apart.

Gross was more or less saying in my honest opinion, as many have stated already that he and the entire line need to do their job better before they get to the redzone. This will help open up the possibility of running once you get down there. You can't expect the run to work in the redzone if its not working when the field is wide open.

BTW, I did not join the huddle because Cam Newton. I'm from the Hickory area so i'm all Panther football. Since that's out of the way. I believe Jstew should get the majority of the carries considering the formation the panthers seem to be running. I'm tired of DW running across the field, missing his holes that could get three yards and getting tackled for a yard loss. Time for everyone involved in the running game, including the lineman to put their head down and run some people over.

Welcome and I honestly think what matters more when it comes to our running backs is who is better at catching balls and getting open....it seems that's the best way to utilize them at the moment.

Jstew seems to be the better back in every aspect of the offense right now. His vision in toughness once he gets the ball in the open field has been impressive. The play where Nick Collins got hurt was amazing. I thought he was going to be hit and stopped by the first guy but instead jumped, juked and flew over the defenders for a first down. The beauty of his effort on that play was overshadowed by the injury.

Mr. Scot, I'm a fan of what you bring, don't get me wrong. But I have to respectfully disagree with your position that these statements should be viewed as any sort of fued or as you said "battle" between Gross and anyone on our staff. I don't think the quotes suggest that, but this thread definitely does.

Agreed. There is a grotesque lack of reading comprehension on display in this thread. Its borderine bizaar.

if it's a criticism of chud or rivera...i might be upset, but it isn't.

its gross saying that they aren't blocking well enough for them to be trusted. they aren't getting the job done. until they can get the job done, they won't be relied on to do it often.
