The auction has started but.....

The New England Patriots have placed the opening bid on Julius Peppers. Several more bids potentially and probably will be made between now and the Nfl Draft when the auction is set to expire but just like on Ebay there is a buy it now price of 2 first round picks. Its nearly impossible to fathom anyone will bite on that.

It would be fun for the fans to finally have some closure to this whole debacle but it really doesent make much business sense for the panthers to make a deal until draft day or close to it if all they want is picks. The flipside of that situation is if there is a player that the panthers strongly covet who is placed on the trading block and they feel that player would make more of an impact than potential draft picks they could pull the trigger well before the draft.

Long story short, theres guranteed to be plenty more speculation and it may be accurate but if the panthers want draft picks as compensation, then it would be in their best interest for them to wait until the draft beings or at least after they have assembled their war room big board for the draft.

Owners meetings are next week: March 22nd through the 25th.

A fair amount of wheeling and dealing often gets done at these meetings. It's just convenient with everyone in one place.

Would be no great surprise if we see some action there.

is JR going to be making it to that or is mark going?

Im sure the Redskins will chime in with a monster deal. CLE and Den also should be on the list. Pep want be as picky as everyone thinks but someone will have to come up with some good compensation before Hurney will pull the trigger.

Schefter used to be one of the most believable guys in the business. Lately, it's like he's been replaced by his evil twin.

He's had some major head scratchers (most notably suggesting that the Panthers would be interested in Michael Vick) that have done some damage to his credibility.

These days I'd say the title of "insider to trust" belongs to Jay Glazer.

this is true....he still has his moments but he is loosing his ranking as the most credible.

as much as i hate to admit it, even the likes of florio are giving him a run for the money.

schefter is no perfect prognosticator and he has no idea how it is going to turn out. he may have a bit of an insight to things but when it comes to statements like that, he is making a(n) "educated" guess....basically pulling it out of his somewhat informed butt. this turd may stick to the wall or it may be wet and runny. who knows? we (including schefter) won't know for sure until something happens.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
