Panthers worked out DE Jeremy Jarmon

Lost in the Donnie Avery discussion was the fact that the Panthers also worked out DE Jeremy Jarmon... interesting prospect according to this write-up:

If there's one position I think most fans would agree has been a very pleasant surprise it's been the defensive ends. Not that anyone doubted the talent of Charles Johnson or Greg Hardy, but there was tangible concern that a lack of pressure from the defensive tackles would result in the DEs being too often double teamed and taken out of plays, as was prevalent in the 2011 pre-season. With the move to cut Everette Brown and bring in George Selvie it appeared the depth at DE was established, but the Panthers are ensuring they leave no stone unturned when it comes to improving this football team.

Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com is reporting the Panthers are bringing in former Washington Redskins DE Jeremy Jarmon for a workout today. The 6'3", 286 lb Jarmon was a former 3rd round pick taken in the supplemental draft in 2009 out of Kentucky. He entered the draft following a positive test for a banned supplement, which was said to be an over-the-counter dietary supplement.

Traded from Washington to Denver this season in exchange for WR Jabbar Gaffney he was one of the final cuts the Broncos made in trimming their roster and was described as a 'tough cut'. After the jump you'll see Jarmon's statistics thus far, but remember he's been playing out of position- he is a 4-3 DE who was asked to play 3-4 DE in Washington's system, so I wouldn't be too dismissive of his lack of sacks. While at Kentucky he was a two time All-SEC defensive end.

    • The team with the smallest starting qb in the league just lost its LT.
    • I don’t know what the team is thinking but I tend to agree on LOT. I have said before that it pushes the upgrades we hoped to make all down a rung on the priority ladder.    It feels like… you have this great vacation planned and right before you are about to go, you lose your job. You still gonna take that vacation or are you going to pay bills?
    • I think the Bevell hire has more to do with adding actual veteran head coaching experience to the staff than anything else. But I do wholeheartedly agree that the obsession in general with Seattle needs to come to an end. I mean we plucked the one guy there to be our GM who turned out to be our worst GM in franchise history in just a few short years and that's really saying something given our history there. Clearly trying to mimick Seattle in any way has not been productive. As far as Idzik many of us have asked the same question but at this point in time it doesn't really matter anymore because Canales is either going to lead this franchise to a winning record or he will be shown the door.
