Most 40+ yard passes given up in the NFL

We have given up a league leading 4 passes of 40 yards or more, and 11 of 20 or more (13th worst). Opposing QBs have a combined 110.8 passer rating throwing on our D.

Chicago loves the deep ball, and I hope we are prepared for the long bombs. At the end of the day the only stat that matters is the points on scoreboard. Here's hoping we stop the bleeding this Sunday and pull the upset...

although I really don't like this stat, it does not surprise me all that much.

The type of defense that McDermott is and will run is always susceptible to givinbg up big plays. Teams can use your agressive style against you. Combine this style with guys that are just learning the new scheme, and it is a recipe for giving up the big plays.

I think you will see significant improvement in this area as the season wears on.

It's not the deep ball that is the problem. The ones that end up as long passes are short/medium throws when Pugh is off checking stock quotes or whatever he does when he's not in position.

Correct, we are not getting hit for long bombs down the sideline..broken coverages and poor tackling has been our D's biggest problem so far this year.

    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
    • Dude he didnt play in pre season.....  he didnt practice at all with the team until the end of October.    I do agree though.
    • Bryce had a hand in the Miami win but not nearly as large of one as Rico and he also had the extra burden of being a big reason we were in the hole in the first place. If we get a winning season he is definitely back for next year though.
