The Associated Press BS account of the fight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A late hit on Carolina's Steve Smith following a 54-yard touchdown catch nearly caused a fight in the first quarter of the Saints-Panthers game.

The scuffle began after Smith leaped to beat cornerback Jabari Greer to a pass from rookie Cam Newton. Greer fell to the ground, giving Smith an easy 30-yard run to the end zone. But as Smith coasted the final 5 yards and crossed the goal line, Saints safety Roman Harper sprinted in on the left side and knocked Smith to the ground.

Smith jumped up and flipped the ball to the turf defiantly while players from both sides ran down and began shoving each other. Smith then locked up with Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins, shoving him to the ground and holding onto his facemask before the tussle ended.

Harper's late hit was the only penalty called.

So Smith gets a cheap shot put on him after he scores by Harper then Malcolm Jenkins comes and instigates another fight with Steve where he defends himself and the article is all about "Smith involved in a fight." Think the AP is out to get Smitty much?? The guy essentially did nothing wrong and the article is all about him...not the amateurish Saints defenders that instigated the fight.

    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
    • Looks like Darnold should have had at least 3 picks. That'll get ugly in the playoffs eventually. Can't deny his physical talent though. You either have that or you don't. Mike Macdonald is a legit coach.
