The Steve Smith record chase update.

I think Smitty has another 2-4 years as an elite WR, but then if he just becomes our slot WR for the rest of his career for a few more years, he'll a. be in the ring of honor no doubt, b. statue outside of the stadium no doubt, c. a legit chance at the hall of fame.

Show me a highlight video of any other player in the NFL and see whose highlight video is more entertaining/impressive I bet you can't find 1 player with at least 5 minute of career highlights better than a 5 minute Steve Smith highlight video I've yet to see one he is by far my favorite player and he will always be #1 to me.

Good Luck on your HoF chase smitty you deserve it

Part of the requirement to get in is what he did for the game. How he affected a game. Even without touching the ball he had a huge impact on defensive schemes. Smitty Numbers will be enough to get the attention.

Once they see that 5 minute video I think the voters will be amazed.

If there is one WR in the NFL right now I would choose to go up and get a ball. It would be Smitty. Smitty is a fighter and at 5'8" when he goes up for a ball. He has a great chance of coming down with it.

One of the best ever. The player. The man. The monster. You have to admire is toughness on the field and his humility off it.

You could fill a good hour long program of 89 highlights and soundbites.

Awesome videos thanks.

Watching that video got me thinking. Aside from his numbers, the incredible catches and his ungodly speed.

Name me one wide receiver that was more punishing after the catch than Steve Smith. You might be able to name a few tough ones but I seriously doubt that you can name a MORE punishing receiver than Steve Smith.

damn, that highlight reel in the middle of that vid; he's pretty much the WR version of Barry Sanders

As much as I love Steve Smith, and how awesome those stats are, I don't think Steve Smith makes the Hall of Fame.

My reasoning? Cris Carter isn't in the Hall of Fame. As long as Cris Carter isn't in the Hall of Fame, it's hard to put ANY receiver in the Hall.

(How the hell Michael Irvin got in at all, especially over Cris Carter and Andre Reed, makes no sense to me.)

EDIT: I love Smitty as much as the next Panthers fan, but honestly, I don't think he'll get into the Hall. Being a Panther definitely hurt any chance that he had, because of the small market. (See: Andre Reed.)

All this is true... the difference? Irvin did it in super bowls. I'm pretty sure if we make at least one more super bowl and he does his thing people will start remembering what he did last playoffs etc. Is he an odds on favorite? no, but he has an outside chance. The more we back him, the better the chance.

I hope he plays five more years and they put a statue of him outside B of A Stadium.

If he actually plays until he's 40 (HIGHLY unlikely, but possible) and maintains or at least stays close to this level of play, he could have a chance at some amazing receiver records. He doesn't have half of the yards jerry rice had at the end though, that will never be broken by S.S. sadly..
