Rivera on Hogan And Armanti

Was asked about Armanti in his presser today and said he has seen great improvement in Armanti from the tape he had on him last year to the tapes they have on him this year and just seeing him in practice. Also, said something about wanting to see him develop more as a WR, but they like what he's doing...

Overall, sounded optimistic about Armanti and what he's doing right now. He said he really liked what he's doing in the PR game but then what was awkward is he brought up Brandon Hogan in this response without being prompted...

He said something along the lines of "and the thing is, when Brandon Hogan gets back, we could put him in there at punt returner. He has a history of returning punts and we feel he could be really good at it, so that would give us two different types of returners there. We could switch them out and alternate them and give each of them chances. We really like what both of them could do."

That isn't verbatim, but along those lines. Sounded really positive about Armanti but then it sounded like Hogan was being viewed as a potential successor at PR.

He also said Hogan will start practicing a week from now and they'll have 3 weeks to make a decision on him.

Lost between all the 2 and 3 yarders. I meant one more time.

whenever he gets some blocking i think he'll start breaking out

as for WR, Rivera said the opportunities aren't there since they aren't running 4 WR sets. I'd like to see them try some of the wildcat with him along with DWill. Or maybe run a reverse with him sometime. give him a chance out there

You guys know I could care less about the Appalachian State Mountaineers, but to say he hasn't done well on punt returns this year would be, well, a fallacy.

Our return protection this season has been far from great, and Armanti has done a nice job each and every time he gets a shot of making something out of nothing. More importantly, he hasn't made any bone headed decisions. He knows when to let it go int the endzone, he knows when to fair catch, and he knows when to return. Just to top if off, he hasn't muffed any either.

I'd like to see Armanti start getting more involved in the offense. We've been running some Wildcat, I'd like to use his experience as a QB in that package to provide another threat. Even if we only throw it with him once, I'd like to make them respect that possibility.

wouldn't it be great if Hogan turned out to be our number 2 corner, so we could draft a DT or LB

If Hogan turns out to be that good, it would just be a bonus as I think Munny and Butler are doing great right now and each have a bright future with us.

I'm excited about what Hogan can bring to our team though.

    • yeah, I can get a little of that.  But that's not what he is posting in his argument just now though.   He said people wouldn't even concede to the literal ability to do it when pressed on the literal ability.  I have never seen that.  He maintains it exists somewhere.  I mean, using anomaly games to make arguments about players just isn't the way.   There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of our guys on 2 of those 3 throws Sunday.  No one within 5 on the 3rd.   That's not Bryce Young answering questions about his play downfield..  That's Bryce Young taking advantage of coverage busts by a bad D.  Which hey, that's part of the game too.  Recognition and seeing the field.   It can't totally be dismissed.   That's still good play.  You want your QBs to make those plays.  But it's not getting into the long standing critique of BY IMO.
    • Deserved, I wouldn’t use that word. Asked for? For sure. Am I upset over it? No.  People forget that AT was throwing his helmet in frustration last season over his QB’s ineptitude. The same QB was pretty inept to start this year, no guarantee AT would have helped him in those games any more than he did last year.  Just sayin.  And Dan doing him a solid probably did not go unnoticed by players around the league. I think it increases his rep with potential FAs. It sure can’t hurt it.
    • You think that was the fault of the guy that was lighting it up or maybe the bums around him? Funnily enough, those bums are still being bums in his absence. Who would have thought!
