Just sitting here watching Fua and McClain get abused.

Unrealistic expectations: the number one leading cause in stupid posts.

We won't find a DT out there in FA or through trade that will suddenly make us a playoff team. What would you rather have? A stop gap or give reps to young guys who need the experience? In our situation, it would be dumb to waste time on someone with no future.

Let them take their knocks and learn. Next year (maybe even later this year) things will be different. I have noticed some improvement in Fua. He is starting to get more push and is shedding blockers better than he did in the preseason.

Paitience is a virtue.

If Fua is shedding blockers then that is a bad thing.

But for a few plays here and there, we could easily be 4-1 or 5-0 and a big part of that is our inability to get any kind of push from the interior of our defensive line.

Is it fair to the rest of the team to sacrifice wins in the name of developing young players?

penalties and special teams are bigger concerns I think. especially since they often make negative contributions on the same play.

I'm not saying it's all on our DT play, but it's a big part of our problems... teams can run the ball right down our throat and QB's can step up in the pocket with virtually no fear.

3 and 1 with under 2 mins in the 4th, Ingram runs it right down our throat for a 1st down...

okay, and the goal is to put them in these situations now....so then we the team as a whole is farther along and legitimately ready they will be ready to make that play.

No point wasting reps on someone like a Pat Williams. Doesn't matter if he can do the job better today. Winning 5 vs. 6 games doesn't matter.....getting better quickly is more important.

Yeah, just saw the last defensive series and my mind is made up. You gotta start Fields over Fua.

Fields isn't a world beater, but he holds the point of attack and doesn't make crucial errors. He can recognize the screen pass and adjust, so on and so on...McClain makes plays often enough to compensate for his errors. Fua does not.

    • There probably isn’t an orthopedic surgery that has had more improvement in technique and outcomes over the last two decades than the acl repair. Because of its importance in pro sports and the sheer number that surgeons do there have been lots of opportunities to practice 1. Better techniques - arthroscopic v open surgery means people heal faster  2. More training - all sports med surgeons have tons of experience doing them 3. better imaging - later generations of mri are more sensitive  4. better therapy - PTs have gotten better at rehabbing them and the theories of rehab have improved a lot. No idea about brooks in particular tho, but I’d describe that overall situation as “not great”
    • If Freeling or either of the Utah OTs dropped to 19 I'd be more than happy honestly. Our OT situation isn't great with an aging Moton at RT and a mess of a situation at LT if Walker goes down at any point in time.  What I'm expecting the Panthers to do is probably draft another weapon like Sadiq or KC Conception. That's been their track record in drafting R1 thus far. None of the defensive talent projected to be around 19 stands out to me. Unless they just want to draft a LB early (Rodriguez,  CJ Allen, Anthony Hill, Jake Gollday).
