Otah to IR

how many have been on IR every year of those 3.....can't compare an apple to an orange.

Unless there is reason to believe Otah won't be willing to be depth next season....no reason to cut him.

Alright Herman Cain. JK

We need to start addressing the T position but I don't think we need to cut him. He couldn't have to steep a contract.

Otah, Clausen, Brown...

Starting to add up Hurney...your saving graces are your late picks that seem to work out but these are some recent, high round picked players just falling to crap. I realize there isn't a lot to do about an injury but it's hard to see all these players as a coincidence.

Panther's Game 3, 2012 season:

Rivera: Damn, our starting OT just went down! Matsko, get someone in there now!

Matsko: Otah, your in. Go go go....

<Otah stands up off the bench, takes literally one step, crumples over and begins slamming his fist on the ground in what appears to be a fit of pain and frustration>

Otah: AAAAUGGGGHHH!!

<Matsko runs over with a trainer>

Matsko: What's wrong Jeff?

Otah: My knee... it's blown out again.... AAAAAAAUUUUGH.

Otah's facial expression:

Matsko: Well, looks like another IR year for you.

I think we will be drafting somewhere between 8-12 and the names that I would be focusing on right now would be all defense:

Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Janoris Jenkins, CB, N. Alabama (formerly Florida, has character concerns)

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson

As of today, I believe one of those four players will be on our roster next year.

not sure why we would give him a choice. he's done nothing to warrant being in the divers seat. after so many missed games and on IR most of his career, he'll take whatever he's offered and be grateful he even has a chance.
I guess that full year off last season was just not enough.
this is one thing that really bugs me. he took a year off, plus an extended offseason. he almost pulled off two full years.

this guy has perpetual disappointment written all over him. not sure why someone would even want to bother with him after this. there is something SERIOUSLY wrong if you can't get healthy after all that time. you just should hang it up at that point.

Stewart

Beason

Wiliams

Davis

Gamble

Gross

Peppers

that is Hurney's actual first round choices.......now pick a random team and compare how they did in the the first round in recent history. Hurney's first round is what will continue to keep him employed. He knocks them out of the park. After that, he is just your typical hit or miss GM.

.

Not saying he is in the drivers seat. Carolina makes him the backup. They control it. When his deal is up he is done.

Don't defend Hurney on this, like others have mentioned, he had a knock on him about not being able to play through small injuries. He took a chance, and it failed.

I haven't read scouting reports that made mention of Otah having injury problems.

He started 17 consecutive game at Valley Forge, and played all 12 games in 2006 and 2007 at Pitt.

That list right there has more to do with our 1-5 record as anything else... wow.

The years the Panthers have had good records, injuries have been at a minimum.

Is it our training staff? Is it our scouting/drafting? Or is it just bad luck?

just bad luck.

we have a new training staff, but they came in with two strikes against them.

1) shortened offseason

2) TD and otah who had spent the better part of 2 years on IR.

Nice of you to narrow my post down to only the first round even though it has very little to do with what I actually typed. I am not sure why I would only compare the first round with other GMS, when there is two-three more rounds that would be considered as 'higher rounds' like I said. Yes he has done good with the slim pickings of the very first round. I don't mind Hurney as our GM and don't think he is bad at what he does. My statement holds little sentiment.

Personally, I think he is average and has had a lot of pooty mistakes to go along with his 'wonderful eye for first round picks'. Unless of course you want to judge his player selections based off recent team wins or production/performance as many employees are judged by in which case we'd have to go lower than average.

    • He's not wrong though. You talk like a politician on here. Leaving yourself just enough wiggle room to say you never fully counted Bryce out if you need to....But we can all see it. Just say you think he is a bust outright and you will have to type a lot less. Obfuscating your opinion behind QB3 competitions etc....
    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
