Rex Grossman has a 23-16 career record as a starter. That record is updated and displayed every time he starts a game, more as justification than information: “Yes, we know you are watching a guy close his eyes and heave the ball into tight downfield coverage, but look, he has won many games, so he must do something right.” The entire Redskins offense closed ranks around Grossman after his four-interception meltdown against the Eagles, which meant it was only a matter of hours before Mike Shanahan named John Beck (career record: 0-4, earned honestly) the starter. If you did not celebrate the renaissance of Redskins team unity, wise management and long-range planning before last week, it is now probably too late. Pick: Panthers.

The Panthers were forced to put RT Jeff Otah on injured reserve again this season. By the end of the season, Otah will have missed 35 games due to injuries while starting just 29. He struggled again with his weight this season (over 350 pounds) and back pain. It means that rookie Byron Bell will take his place. If Bell struggles, Travelle Wharton will shift from guard to tackle.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
