Amazing Cam Stat.

8-for-8 -- This got lost in the shuffle Sunday, but Newton went a perfect 8-for-8 for 152 yards and a touchdown in the second half against Washington. He led the Panthers on three TD drives and had a perfect QB rating of 158.3 during the half.

he's so inaccurate he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn

He's still not pinpoint accurate like a Brady or Brees type, but his placement is definitely getting better and should only continue to improve as he gets more work with receivers.

Said many times a pass only has to be catchable, not perfect.

That said, the drop in to Smith at the one was perfect.

My overall impression is that Cam starts out games a little like Farve did, so jacked-up that he tends to "overthrow" his passes. As he settles in to the game, his accuracy improves because he's burned off some adrenaline.

The good news is that he's doing this as a rookie, which is certainly understandable, so as he gains more experience he probably won't be as jacked-up at the beginning of games.

Guess this nullifies our concerns over the "Cam's stats when we have the lead" topic that was discussed a few weeks ago.

I meant to participate in that discussion but didn't.

To me it hasn't been a case of whether we had the lead or not so much as it was he was way better at the start of games than at the end. I attribute that to having to adjust to the rigors of the pro game. A common thing even for rookies who play less active positions than quarterback.

Said a long way back that problem would take care of itself over time.

As the season draws on, the "rookie wall" looms nearer. Others will certainly hit it. Newton may hit it too. But again, that's a short term issue, not a long term one.

I will add his two sideline passes to Smitty, both of approx 20 yds if I remember correctly. Both were absolute lasers to Smitty running full speed, tightly covered, and both hit him right in the hands. Those were definitely Brady or Manning worthy, and frankly, I can't see Brees making those two throws.

And for Fowler, his 8 for 8 wasn't lost to all of us, I mentioned it in a thread yesterday. He actually missed one throw, but the play was called back because we were holding, so the incompletion didn't count.

Related Note: I think they changed up the type of passes he's throwing to Legedu Naanee.

I'm not seeing as many "jump balls" his way as before. Now it's more high percentage passes to him. Guess they realized his body control wasn't good enough for him to do the circus stuff and adjusted.

(imagine that) :sosp:

Is it wrong that I read the word adjusted & it took a few seconds to figure out what team you were talking about?

That's a running gag with a buddy of mine.

"They made an adjustment."

"What? Are we allowed to do that?"

"They changed the rules this year. It's allowed now. Used to be allowed for everyone but us."

    • I did not, this reminds me of another live action type video game that never made it and has a huge cult following. Thanks for the 90s nostalgia frend!! My gods do I miss that era at USAs peak and it was my best on many aspects too.
    • Many layers my frend- Panthers had a draft recently. They picked 4 defense players. Each player picked 11, 22, 33, 55 as their number. For some players that number match the round or pre-draft round rank, example- Prince was a 3rd rounder and choose 33. Nic was a 1st rounder on some mock drafts and Dan Morgan said they had him as a 1st, he picked 11. Cam Jackson recently switched his number to 55, same as draft and has been telling Dave he wants to be special over and over.  The 44 was to add GOAT feels, thoughts, and more intrigue to this rookie phenomenon. X files cause it was a great TV show and maybe it was playing when this theory came together.......   I hope this helps!
    • The best things Purdy has are certainly important tools for any QB. His accuracy his timing his decision making etc. I feel like he is a high end Teddy Bridgewater. You can compete and win in the regular season with this especially in a weakened NFC but where his limitations come into focus is when you are trying to contend for a Super Bowl you are going against elite and in some instances generational QB's like Mahomes. And when the time has come for him to go up against Mahomes he simply can't get it done. Now certainly he is not alone in that regard and people will point to another highly regarded QB such as Josh Allen who also cannot get by Mahomes. But the difference I see is Allen is not IMO at a phsyical disadvantage in that matchup whereas Purdy is. And that is with what had been to this point a comically stacked roster around Purdy and let's be clear we cannot understate that regardless of which side of the fence we land on in this debate. Purdy has had a top 5 roster and a top 5 coach. And the last time they went to the Super Bowl they leaned on McCaffrey extremely heavily. Now with what they are having to pay him and divert limited resources elsewhere they face a steep climb to get back to the Super Bowl let alone actually win it.
