Panthers vs Vikings History

Happy Panther

We have played the vikings more than I thought including 7 times in the 2000s.

Vikings hold a 5-4 edge

1996 L 12-14 one of only 4 losses

1997 L 14-21

2000 L 17-31

2001 W 24-13

This was our only win. I ran a survivor pool that year and all but 2 people were out of it after week 1.

2002 W 21-14

This made us 3-0. Unfortunately we went on to lose 8 in a row after that

Why did we play them 3 years in a row?

2005 W 38-13 Smith 201 yards

2006 L 13-16 (OT)

2008 L 10-20

2009 W 26-7

This was a flex game as the Vikings needed to win to get their number 1 seed. Favre and Childress bitched at each other and Steve Smith went off under leadership from Matt Moore.

You are right. Wiki lists this as a flex game (sort of) but it wasn't.

Since the 2006 season, the NFL has used a "flexible scheduling" system for the last seven weeks of the regular season when there is a Sunday night game. This is because by week 11, there are a number of teams that have been removed from playoff contention. Flex-scheduling ensures that all Sunday night games have playoff significance. As an example, the Vikings played the Panthers in December 2009. The latter team was out of playoff contention, but Minnesota needed a win to acquire the #1 NFC seed.

I was there too and froze my ass off.

01, Smitty had his first TD and Wienke had a great first game. 02 I remember we had 3 picks on throws to Moss cause he kept getting alligator arms. Amazingly, this will be the third time this year Cam has played against a QB with fewer career starts than him. Could happen twice more if Locker takes over in Tennessee and Painter stays as the starter in Indy.

I remember the failed lateral on Gamble's punt return that lead to a loss several seasons ago. What a disaster.

Lol what a shi**y call that was. We were dominating the vikes all game until fox or crossman or whoever decided to make gamble a fuging quarterback. The tide turned shortly thereafter.

2008 Delhomme gave up a sack fumble TD right before halftime I believe. He got crushed from the blinside by winfield One of those type mistakes that pretty much only happened to Jake and only at the worst possible time. vikes had huge halftime momentum and it was over after that. fug the metrodome.

    • Actually that 4400 was based on a 16 game season to match Bryce's 16 games this year. Your offense has to be to drive the ball when it matters. Bryce doesn't do that with any level of consistency. If you're building a team that isn't focused on your QB, then fine. Then there's no need to pay Bryce as a franchise QB because literally anyone else will do. If you're going to pay him 50m plus per season, you have to be able to put the team on his shoulders and know he's going to carry the load. So far, when the pressure is on to get it done, Bryce has fallen miserably short of the target. 4-6 to finish out the season and 0-2 when all we need is a win to secure a playoff spot isn't stepping up and proving yourself as a franchise QB. I'd say it's quite the opposite.  There isn't a single coach in this league that would take Bryce over Burrow and very few if any that would take Bryce over Prescott. Hurts didn't have to throw in 2025 because Philly's defense was disgusting and Saquan had a MVP season. But then again, Hurts has shown that he can when it counts, and then there's his signature. Philly runs the tush push to lethal perfection, but that's a play we can't even consider with Bryce. You used 3 QBs from teams that had no defense to show QB stats don't always matter. When we had the worst defense in the NFL, we didn't see Bryce step up and carry the offense and put up gaudy numbers in a losing season because we were playing catch up. It was pretty much the opposite.  What have we seen from Bryce consistently to consider offering him a top 10 NFL franchise QB level contract? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
    • I mean, what fanbase has high expectations when you have a QB like Bryce leading your team?
    • If you pay Bryce $50M a year you greatly limit your ability to put the type of team around him you need to have to have a chance to win. THAT is the problem. Hell, we can't win with him on a rookie contract. How the hell are we supposed to start winning with him paying him like a franchise QB and having to make tough roster decisions to accommodate his cap hit?
