Bell fined $7,500 for face-mask penalty

Following Wednesday’s practice, RT Byron Bell returned to his locker, discovering a letter from the NFL. He was shocked by the content. For a face-mask penalty in the first quarter against the Redskins, Bell was fined $7,500. “How am I going to pay it?” Bell joked with a teammate.

That's a stupid fine. So now in addition to penalties on the field you get them off the field? The stern hand of Roger Godell is getting out of hand.

7K is a big portion of a game check for a player making (presumably) the rookie minimum especially one who given his family situation probebly wants to send as much money back home as possible.

It was a blatant facemask, but surprised at the fine.

Goodell's fines are getting out-of-hand.

Yea in the fact he does not fine people for cheap shots but then fines people for just accidents. Its fuging ridiculous, and how about fining the Refs when they fug up?

    • I've actually been very complimentary of him.  I have said that I think he will get the bulk of receptions and yards. I have said I think he will be a 1k yard reciever thia year. He has issues tho and I guess no one is allowed to point them out.
    • We don't have to lie, 4.8 was official and there were scouts who had him in the 4.54 to 4.57 range
    • Think the "official time" put out was 4.48, but there were a lot of scouts there who of course all had difference times as it's all handed timed by them.  Think I saw it as low as 4.43 and as high as 4.62 or something, but in the end it's all basically the same speed because 40 yard dash is so pointless. Anyone who complains about his speed is just someone who wants a Chase/Jefferson/Nabers style #1 as opposed to an Evans style #1 who isn't going to beat you because of his speed but his other abilities. In the end, he's fast enough for a player his size and surprisingly quicker and more agile than people give him credit for too. The real problem is that Panthers fans can't get our past big WR failures out of their head, they hear "big WR" and automatically see a plodding KB or Jarrett in their minds and assume that's also T-Mac.
