I lol so hard at people who fail to read the thread to make sarcastic remarks.

The bottom line is this:

I don't want Mare cut because he blew a chip shot yesterday. I want Mare gone because it's very likely he may do it again.

This is NOT an aberration, this is Mare's legacy. This is what's haunted him his entire career-his known tendency to crumble when it counts.

How many game-losing misses will you tolerate before you stop assuming that "well, it happens.."? and realize the choke artist reputation he has built for himself for his career is well-deserved.

I honestly don't think you can say Panthers fans are spoiled when it comes to anything. Kasay is one of my favorite Panthers of all time and you can't thank him enough for what he did over the years, especially in the epic 2003 season where we needed last minute FGs all the time. However, it's not like he was or is perfect. He's had his fair share of droughts and missed kicks in the clutch. And if you say Panthers fans are spoiled then there's a lot of other fan bases out there that are just as spoiled when it comes to the kicking game. The NFL has seen a ton of fantastic kickers over the years who were long time stays at their respective franchises. A great kicker isn't like a franchise QB. They're much more common. You can easily name over a dozen who play now. And we have a pretty darn good kicker ourselves. But nobody is perfect...

But 5 years down the road after Cam Cam wins MVP a few times, gets us some rings, and Charlotte becomes one of the most feared places to play in the league... we'll be spoiled. :sifone:

Okay, you say Mare is a choke artist, and that we should have listened to you. I can buy that under one condition...show me. Show me some data, some history, that shows that Mare chokes more than Kasay or the majority of successful kickers in this league.

Show us that, and I for one will say, "yes, you were right".

If not, it's just more random bitch!ng on a message board.

I think there's a room down in the cellars of BoA where clutch kickers are stacked like cord wood.

I guess it's time for Hurney to bring one out and dust him off.

I suspect that Olindo Mare is well aware that missing clutch 30 yarder kicks that could have sent the game into overtime are remembered for a long time by fans and especially the coaches.

I bet Olindo doesn't like having to move too much. The Panthers are his 4th NFL team. He better get his field goal success percentage up to 90% or so. I'm sure he knows that coming through in the clutch sure goes a long way toward giving a kicker some job security. He better not be missing any "clutch" 30 yarders any more this year.

  • 2 weeks later...

We gave this scrub a monster contract and booted what has been statistically the league's best kicker this year.

He deserves every bit of wrath he gets.

Kasay is the 4th best FG kicker in the league, not the best. I'm not defending Mare. I'm laughing at everyone jumping on his case when the rest of the team is playing like trash.

    • Appreciate that, bro!  And I could definitely see that with Cam.  Even though he’s a little younger than me, he is also someone I admire and feel a kinship with for a lot of various reasons. Funny enough, a few years after that encounter with Steve, I went to Charlotte with one of my friends whose brothers owned a moving company at the time.  He dropped me off uptown and went to work the day with them where I would wait until he got done and then we were gonna go to the Bobcats game that night.  So I walk all through that area for hours.  After awhile, I walk back towards the arena and sit in a bench on the backside of the arena, where the practice court and player’s entrance was.  As I’m sitting there, I look up and almost think I’m seeing things - I squint and blink my eyes a couple times just to be sure, and yes…  it’s one of my childhood heroes, Muggsy Bogues walking across the crosswalk and into the arena.  I think he was coaching the Sting then, iirc.  Part of me wanted to just say, “Hey!  Muggsy!  Thank you for the inspiration and memories!  You were one of my favorite players as a kid!”  But, I just watched him walk by and into the arena and thought, “that was cool!”  I also so Miguel Cotto a couple years back while in Orlando and told my kids who it was but didn’t say anything to him.  I think somewhere in my subconscious, that encounter with Steve really made me feel like the gamble on finding out if they’re receptive to interaction just isn’t worth finding out.  At the end of the day, no matter if they’re receptive inspired us or were a hero, unless they initiate it, I likely never will…  because again, they’re humans just like us.  Not anymore unique or special, they just have a highly visible and very public job that we get to watch and in some ways participate.  So, I just appreciate it for what it is.
    • I'm pleasantly surprised they gave it to Bryce Young over Josh Allen. Finally we're getting some respect. Now I'm just hoping the team follows this up accordingly and doesn't lay another egg.
    • What weird blood red moon has cast its spell?  What’s next, dogs and cats sleeping together? Bonus question:  Did Canales open up his playbook or did Bryce find an extra high gear in his stick shift?
