Defense has too many problems to count. Captain is the least of our problems IMO. Not a great corner but makes up for a lot with his hustle. I think Butler has more natural talent/ability that Captain so I think he eventually becomes our #2 corner. Its incredible how much our defense regresses without Jon Beason and Thomas Davis on the field. Our corners do a pretty good job on the WRs. The LBs however are atrocious. They can't cover, can't read an offense, don't make adjustments at the LOS, and are some of the slowest 4-3 LBs I've ever watched. Their pursuit to the sideline is horrible. Getting Beason back next year and possibly adding another talented linebacker through the draft or FA should provide the improvement we need to start winning games.

Said it before captain its a liability in coverage and teams do try to pick on him, lucky we got some coaches who as well seen this and adjusting by not really leaving him out by himself and using him to blitz.

Was writing on my phone, but not to take away from 41 he had a helluva game sunday.but him in coverage scares me, qbs do look his way a lot.

That is inaccurate.

Really? If I had the game tapes and I could go back and find several plays where Captain is either playing way too far underneath or is 5+ away from his receiver. He has a bad habit of trying to jump routes early.

I'm not saying he's perfect, but do people expect all of our CB's to be shutdown guys? He gives up catches, but rarely gives up big plays, is generally a very good tackler and is a very solid cover guy. He's too aggressive at times, but doesn't warrant the trashing he gets on here. Everyone raves about Butler but he's failed to overtake the starting role.

How 'bout that Week 8 prediction?

      I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.

      Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
