Will Steve Smith top his 2005 season?

He said he wanted 2000 yards in 2006 and tore his ACL.

He needs to quit dropping on the 1 yrd line..we have holding calls way too much to score from the one.

So i feel catches and yards will get there but fall short on tds.

I was thinking that yesterday when he went down on the 1 yard line. That's twice now this season. So close.

Now that it looks like there's almost NO chance of getting into the playoffs, I think the game plan should be to get all of the players that can break significant records to do so.

Usually I'm not about individual accolades, but this year I think they should let Cam air it the fug out and conserve our young backs for next year. Hell, let Goodson start getting some runs.

The last thing we need however is another serious injury to one of our star players. Knockin on wood now.

To answer your question though... YES, I think he'll top those stats this year.

No way will he top that. When you think about how he put up those triple crown numbers and then steamrolled everybody but SEA in the playoffs that year, it was ridiculous. I recall watching part of that Seattle game where the announcers were saying how Seattle took Smitty out of the game by QUADRUPLE covering him with a constant LB underneath, and either two safeties and a corner or two corners and a safety. THE ENTIRE GAME. That is badassery.

I remember him begging Foxy to let him return a punt, that He ran back for 6

In that game as well ;-)

Can't stop Smitty.

He's come up short on a lot of catches and runs that should or could have been touchdowns so he's gotten unlucky so far with that. With that said, it's really unlikely he'll break the TD record from that season. With so many more options to throw to than the 2005 team, he is getting less passes thrown his way, which is why it's so amazing to me that he's leading the NFL in receiving yards, he's doing more with less.

It feels like more then two Smitty was stopped on the one or inside the 5. Or werent some called off due to penalites or lost challenges?

I can recall 3 specific times when he was stopped inside the 5 - against the Bears, last week against the Redskins and yesterday. LaFell was also stopped inside the 5 against the Saints...Newton should have 2 or 3 more TD passes on his total (although I suppose his rushing TDs would be down).
