Heath Evans: Penn State Needs To Be Shut Down

Wait so there are other colleges programs that are secretly hiding kiddie rape factories within it's walls?????

I could see your point it this whole child rape scenario was going on at every campus. It doesn't ...that's why this needs to happen.

But I guess their program is worth 20 child rapes. Glad you can put a price on it.

I didn't say child rape was going on on every campus. I said shutting down SMU accomplished NOTHING. Programs still cheat and programs still break the law. You think shutting down PSU is going to make college football a pristine environment?

  • Says PSU's football program should be shut down and players should be allowed to transfer immediately with no penalty
  • Says there's no way possible that other coaches there didn't know what was going on. For teams to be successful, coaches have to know each other and what is going on at all times. There's no way they didn't see these kids and know of or suspect anything inappropriate.
  • Agreed with my opinion that even having this interim coach taking over is absurd because he's been there for quite a long time as well, played there, and coached under Sandusky.
  • Talks about how the NCAA has given the death penalty for much more absurd things.
  • Mentions Reggie Bush isn't even allowed on USC's campus because of the NCAA's rulings on his case, but PSU is allowed to go on and handle this themselves?
  • Says the NCAA should stop waving the white flag, step in, and shut down the program.

Couldn't agree more.

After an investigation and all the facts are out. Right?

Right??

Honestly...no. But it's a first step. It's a chance to show that there is something more important than "the program."

This is proof that sports has become too important in out lives

so you're saying since there's no rule against buttfuging a minor, ncaa shouldn't have jurisdiction.

Got it.

I am saying that the NCAA is setup to govern athletic activities, not criminal behavior. The police have jurisdiction, not a rules committee set up to enforce recruiting violations. That's a fairly easy concept to grasp.

They might be able to get Penn State for something, but by the time they do, its likely to not mean much anyway.

IMO, no... (WARNING RUN ON SENTENCE AHEAD) You can suspend Dez Bryant for the rest of his college career and risk ruining his ability to make money down the road for having dinner with Deion Sanders based on assumptions but you allow a program to carry on as-is after a grand jury charges a guy for repeatedly raping and molesting minors while using PSU's facilities, staff, and resources to do so?

I understand that the criminal investigation and process takes precedence over anything the NCAA oversees, but if we look at it in a micro-focus, let's say the NCAA is just overseeing sports and academics. They know the university was used as the headquarters for child rapes, molestations, and exploitations. It is becoming more and more obvious, as I predicted, that this involved some very powerful, rich, and/or influential people and that's why it was swept under the rug and allowed to continue...

For the NCAA to know how many lives have been permanently ruined by what has happened there, they DO have the authority to immediately suspend all athletic activities at least until the criminal investigation has run its course.

People keep wanting to talk about Joe Pa, McQueary, and whoever else... How about the whole program? It should at least be temporarily suspended. They don't need a criminal investigation for that. This is bigger than football, money, and illegal benefits. SMU looks like a speeding ticket for 1 mph over the limit compared to serial child molestation.

Wouldn't suspending all sports activities be punishing the athletes themselves for a transgression of members of the administration? I mean why should the swim team or track and field be shut down? I mean I could see shutting down Football perhaps, after all is said and one. But why should the swim team or track and field be shut down?

Suspend just football then...I mean, UNC has been playing without one without hurting their other sports for years

Sorry, I meant to say football activities but got a little overzealous. I think they should shut football down asap and allow the players to transfer. But, to be honest, the administration allowed these things to go on so if they shut the whole athletic dept. down and allow the athletes to transfer, I could understand that as well.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
