A little perspective

While I can agree more practice will do good, I really never understood why that can't start happening now and every single week.

Why must one wait until off-season to do this? There's no reason why they can't start showing improvement every week. This is the best time to do it.

Season's lost anyway.

News Flash !!

Panthers were never a playoff contender this season ..

How soon fans forget FOX ran this team into the ground so bad, that Smitty was leaving at all cost ...

Enter a completly new coaching staff

Installing completly new offense & defense schems

This was and is a growing season ,a learning season,a get rid of the FOX players and mentality season

A true expectation was 4 wins maybe 5

And you also have Hurneys blunders to overcome

Why pay $$$$$ to Deangelo if he does not fit into the new offense ?

This season is a wash

It takes at the least 2 drafts and F/A for a New coach to be able to dump the former coaches players that don't fit now and to find his players.

And mistakes will be made

Parcells.Belicheck ,Cowher all made mistakes their first seasons

But you learn

Oh and by the way... do all this with no OTA's or mini-camps.

Folks need to calm down and reset their expectations to something realistic.

Didn't every other NFL team? 49 ers. Cincinnati. They have 2 rookies. Rookie QB throwing to rookie receiver.

Denver was in much worse spot than we are. They are about to break .500 with The Golden Calf of Bristol and our old coach. No way was Denver in a better spot than us at the start of this season. Fox switched QB's 3 times and had to rip out his playbook again 3 weeks ago.

I'm tired of hearing excuses. There was only one reason we didn't win those games today and it has nothing to do with us not having the talent. We sucked in the 4th quarter. Cam blows it in tied or even games under pressure.

It's sickening for people to think that any amount of waiting, FA, and trading will ever repair poor execution. It won't. You can have an all-star team but if you play bad, you're gonna lose.

What you're failing to mention is the DEFENSES of Cincinatti and also the 49ers. If memory serves the 49ers are top 3-5 in all major defensive categories while the Bengals are top 7-10 in those same defensive categories. Care to take a stab at where our defens is...we're 31st in PPG Defense (26.3), and we're giving up over 360 total yards per game, while on avg 138 of the 360is from the rushing attacks of other teams.

Did you know that San Francisco was giving up just HALF of what we are when it comes to the running game of other teams (just above 70 ypg), and up until Sunday hadn't given up a rushing score...Meanwhile Cincinatti is

5th in ppg allowed at (18), 5th in total yards (304.2) and 86.8 of those yards go to the opposing teams rushing attack.

Sensing a theme here yet...our defense isn't good enough to help our offense out at this point. Our D-Line is weak against the run, and our LB's are slow, and a non-factor without Beason and Davis. Give us a top 15 defense overall that creates turnovers (which we haven't done well all season) to give us some shorter fields.

And your comments about Cam, damn bruh it's like you don't even watch the games...what's blown it for us is penalties offensively/defensively. The ONLY reason we're in these games that we're in is because of Cam, we had Smitty in 09, 2010, and he didn't play this way there are several factors (schemes, and QB's) but enter Cam and Smith is just under or over 1,000 yards after 9 games when he had like 600 somethign last year. Stop with the ignorance.

I don't think you can put this on Cam, he may not play like one but he's still a rookie and still has some maturing to do.

Better preparation, execution, and adjustments are the primary concern here. Look at the difference in New Orlean's defense before and after Williams. Look at Atlanta under Petrino, and then under Smith (yeah, I know they got Turner, but he doesn't play defense). The talent levels in the NFL are fairly similar from roster to roster, with the exception of superstars. It's coaching that puts a team over the top.

I agree with OP. I can live with another 2 win season.

But looking a the Titans game I am afraid of what losing can do to your team. Man we are looking like a loser team right know. That is not a hole I want to get in b/c that is not eazy to get out of again.

I expected around 5 wins this year WITH TD and the Beast. Our D was still going to be subpar with those two on the field. I dont know why anyone would be questioning FO decisions at this point (and I dont think rational fans are here). We knew at the start of the season what this year should be like. Its a new beginning and most of us all came to that agreement. As long as Cam showed us something we wouldnt expect too much this year. We can digest plays and learn more about Chud while we figure out who goes and who stays.

The fact is that we are being treated to a nice little surprise from a #1 draft pick and we are THE team of the future (EAT IT NFC SOUTH!). In a way, Im kind of glad we're sucking now because its more identifiable where the suck is coming from. It should be more obvious to idiotic emo fans and that in turn make my life marginally less miserable since I will have one less "Chris Gamble sucks" post to shake my head at.

EDIT: or another "Steve Smith has lost a step" post  "how you like me now?"

I agree, I hope Rivera will improve but there may be a reason we signed him for a low contract.

SF and Cincy.....had better defensive talent than us heading into the season. Then we lost all our studs.

How is that hard to see? Give them our D and ST talent and they both get blown out of the water.

new head coach and coaching staff.

dramatically different offensive and defensive systems.

rookie starting QB.

all of this needed a full offseason to implement and have any chance of seeing significant success. we didn't have that.

add in losing 3 defensive starters right off the bat, including your two main leaders on defense and you have a recipe for the clusterf*ck of a season we have been having.

still no excuse for STs to play as poorly as they have been, though.

murphy is the only coach whose job should be in jeopardy.

I think people also forget this was a must win for the titans to keep their season alive. That is not an excuse for us to be flat, but they wwre obviously much more fired up than us and laid it all on the line where we did not.

People forget that other teams try to win too, its not just always a bad call by one of our coaches or something of that nature.
